This tutorial will show you how use the Quick Markup tool in the Snipping Tool app to annotate live on your screen in Windows 11.
The Snipping Tool app includes a built-in screen recorder and allows you to quickly take and annotate screenshots, photos and other images with your pen, touch, or mouse and save, paste or share with other apps.
Starting with Snipping Tool version 11.2508.24.0 on Windows 11, Microsoft is introducing Quick markup – a faster way to annotate your screenshots and streamline your workflow. Quick markup lets you draw live on your screen in real time.
EXAMPLE: Quick markup button on Snipping Tool toolbar
Here's How:
1 Perform either action below:
- Press the Win
+ Shift + S keys. - Press the Print Screen key if Use the Print screen button to open screen snipping is turned on.
- Click on the pen tail button if you have Screen Snipping selected for the click once pen shortcut.
- Open the Snipping Tool app, and click/tap on New. (see screenshot below)
2 Perform the steps below to select Quick markup: (see screenshot below)
- Select the Snip button if not already selected.
- Select the Rectangle snipping mode if not already selected.
- Click/tap on the Quick markup to highlight it.
3 Select an area on your screen you want to annotate live. (see screenshot below)
4 In the Quick markup toolbar, you’ll find the classic pen, highlighter, and eraser tools, along with shapes and emojis to make quick edits to your image. Re-cropping the selection area can be done by dragging the grabbers around the perimeter. (see screenshot below)
You’ll also be able to streamline your workflows by clicking on the Share, Visual Search with Bing, or Ask Copilot buttons.
You can also click/tap on the Capture button to Capture as screenshot, Save to file, or Copy only to clipboard.
Please note that for these options, the image will not be copied to your clipboard or autosaved.
That's it,
Shawn Brink
