Windows 11 Pro ver. 22H2
I believe I have read about MyFolders, the Windows File Explorer Extension, in the Ten Forum so I hope there is someone here who can give me advice. I have installed the latest version of the MyFolders program. I have 3 other computers in my home network and I have checked all the permissions on them. They seem to be set correctly. I can use MyFolders to copy files to any of the root drive's folders on all of them. For instance, I can copy an Access file to New-PC's C Drive's folder named Access Databases. I cannot seem to copy any file to the C Drive, itself on any of these computers. I was able to do that in my Windows 10 machines. Is there any solution available to enable me to copy to these other computer's root drive using MyFolders? Also, even using just Windows File Explorer, I cannot copy a file to the root drives. I know it seem like permission issue especially after looking at the attachment, but I cannot find any setting that is wring when trying to allow the entire drives to be accessible.

Thanks

The root of the Boot/System drive likes to be well-protected, requires creating a Folder to store things in. I create any Folders necessary if the files to be saved don't fit in the subjects of what is available by default, could be in C:\ but also subfolders of others.

Thank you for the reply. Hopefully you'll forgive me for asking but I am have a hard time understanding. Not exactly sure what your saying since I am able to access and copy to the root drives of other computers in my network when using Windows 10. Is there a difference since I am not trying to do the same thing using Windows 11? Also, I can access C Drive's sub-folders in Windows 11.

It may involve the Win11 computer where those on the Network are not being booted from the Win11 computer. Have you tried copying from a Win10 to the Win11?

I just tried. I am able to see the C Drive and all of its sub-folders from the Win 10 machine. So I copied a file and tried to paste it into the Win 11's C Drive and the Paste option was not available. The paste option is available if I choose one of the Win 11's C Drive's sub-folders.

To be able to create/modify or copy-paste files in the root folder (C:\ ) you need Administrator rights. Right-click on the MyFolders shortcut, go to Properties, Compatibility and check the box to always run as Administrator. Next time you should not have any issue saving directly to C:\

It seems that MyFolders is not really a shortcut. It is a File Explorer extension and I can't right click on it. If I choose settings it has no option to run as administrator. Possibly I am doing something wrong. If you know of a way to tell MyFolders that I should have administrator rights please let me know. Thanks.

That extension probably has an executable file that runs at startup. Locate this file at C:\Program Files and make it to always run as administrator.

Thank you. I guess I am stuck with what it does because even when I find the executable file the only choice is to Run As Administrator and it opens it up to the wrong place in the program and only runs as administrator for that one occasion. It does not offer the option to always run that way. Wish it did. I will do a WEB search and see if there is any way to make it run that way.

In my search to run MyFolders I came across this:
How do you set apps to always run as an administrator on Windows 11?

To set a program to always run with administrative permissions, first, locate its main executable file. Right-click or press-and-hold on it, and then click or tap Properties. In the Compatibility tab, check the box next to “Run this program as an administrator” and click or tap on Apply or OK.
Unfortunately the option to always run as administrator didn't perform as expected. Actually it stopped the program from running. You can see where I found it in the first attachment and what it cause in the second attachment. I don't know what the dialog box in the second attachment means or what I would need to do.MyFolders.jpgMyFolders1.jpg

Just something I have discovered in trying to get MyFolders to work as I wanted it to. I created a File Explorer shortcut that I am running with "always run as administrator" privileges. Even using that, I can not paste a file into the root directory of other computers on my network. Again, I can paste into any sub-folder of the root directory on any of the other computers on my network, just not the root directory itself.
