Vanishing 10 bit colour

24 Hz might well be all I need as I’m not gaming but watching 4K movie files so I think with the addition of a white list in Kodi that will hopefully eliminate the slight frame dropping I’m getting. Still puzzled as to why 10 bit stops at 24 Hz though when I had it set to 60 before.

Rather unlikely for a desktop, but you might have hybrid graphics. That means two graphics cards, an onboard Intel® UHD Graphics 630 for all the 2D graphics, and an nVidia only for 3D acceleration. Have a look at Windows Settings, System, Display, Advanced Display.


Mine says

Display 1: Connected to nVidia GeForce RTX 3050. If yours say Intel, then you need Intel Graphics Properties or similar tool instead of nVidia Control Panel.

I have a 4th generation Intel Core-i5 hybrid tablet/laptop Fujitsu Stylistic Q702. My onboard Intel HD 4000 graphics card doesn't list 3840x2160 or 4096x2160 in the available resolutions because the card is not good enough for 4K. However, I use this laptop for watching movies and my TV I connect it to is 3840x2160, so I decided to try and add it as a custom resolution. I could not go beyond 24Hz, so I did that and tried to watch a movie. The image constantly stutters, like upgrading the top half first and then the second. It is not smooth enough to watch a movie. If my onboard graphics card was a little better and could go up to 30Hz, then I could watch movies. All I can do is work with 3840x2160 resolution, not very useful. Who would use a 50" TV to work? So I use it at 1080p for watching movies and it does a perfect job at that resolution. I have even used the Color Management in the good old Windows Control Panel to calibrate the colors for best quality. My main PC (see 2nd system specs) with my nVidia GeForce RTX 3050 has no issues at 3840x2160 at 60Hz, but as you imagine is not very convenient to have it in the living room all the time. Unless you are still single...

There may be exceptions that I don't know about, but all of the nVidia graphics cards I'm familiar with have a single HDMI port.

If there are two HDMI ports on the back of the PC, one would typically be for the integrated GPU.

I hope that you're not using the iGPU port.

Most not too old discrete VGA cards have three ports, either a DVI, an HDMI and a DP or two HDMI and a DP etc. Older models had VGA along with DVI and HDMI. Some cards have four. My 3050 has two DP and two HDMI. Thanks to a DP-to-VGA adapter I can use my Sony 19" TV monitor with VGA cable and get 1440x900 resolution because the HDMI is unfortunately limited to 1280x720. Shame to you Sony... What makes me mad is that I connected an iMac Mini via HDMI to reinstall Mac OS for a friend and it managed 1080i (interlaced) resolution! No matter how I tried I couldn't see 1080i in Windows. What the f...?

That's mostly of historical interest.

The RTX 3050 (at least the reference design) seems to use the typical nVidia ports: 3 DP. one HDMI.

Thankfully I have two HDMI because I find it more useful than having three DP. Of course I can always use a DP-to-HDMI adaptor, but it is better to have the output already.

It would be nice to know what TV the OP has. A RTX 3050 should have no problem running a 4K display at 4:4:4 RGB 10bit at 144hz without DSC.
One thing that might be the issue is that the OP needs to set his resolution as PC and not using the Ultra HD, HD, SD resolutions.
This is how my LG C4 is set up with my 3080 Ti which has the same outputs.

I am not sure, but I think there are no duplicate resolutions on the list. They are either listed as TV or as PC resolutions, not both. I occasionally change to 4K resolution and I see the rest of the settings, RGB, Full, 8bpc remain the same. But when I actually apply the resolution they are automatically changed to YCbCr limited because of the cable bandwidth. So the OP must first select the resolution, apply it and then change the rest of the settings and click Apply again. It is not a single step. However, once you set the values once, Windows remember them. So if i switch to 4K I don't have to set the settings again and when I return to 1080p it also returns to RGB, Full, 8bpc (or 10bpc or 12bpc) that I used last time for that resolution.

I see that the GV-N3050WF2OCV2-6GD is different from what I expect. Maybe "captainfearless" has a similar model.

Time for me to stop trying to guess his details.

Thanks to all for the kind responses. My cable, TV, PC and AVR all support 60hz RR at 3840x2160 resolution, and yet the Nvidia app doesn't display it. It did before but i believe the graphics software has caused this whole issue, as it has since defaulted to 1920 x 1080 resolution, wrongly detecting this as native, among other glitches.

Have just added a whitelist to Kodi which will hopefully complete my quest for smooth UHD video playback.

From my experience, maybe Windows Update replaced your official nVidia graphics driver and obviously doesn't have the same capabilities. To exclude that, download and install either latest Game Ready drivers or latest Studio drivers, I use Studio. Do a custom installation to make sure all components are installed. Same version components are skipped automatically. Then check the nVidia Control Panel again and compare.

Already did that, thanks unplugged the Internet as well and I am also using studio driver.

Can you add 3840x2160 as custom resolution? Add it and then try to use it.
