Solved Very Minor Desktop Icon issue

I don't think is related, today some update (I guess) tried to replace my graphics drivers unsuccessfully and switched the screen at 640x480. I managed to load Device Manager and manually updated the graphics drivers for my nVidia 1050 (I selected it from the list of available drivers). The resolution was fixed back to 1440x900 but Microsoft Edge was stuck. I had to kill it from Task Manager and relaunch it.

Add me to the list! Grateful for this thread as it lets me know I'm not crazy. Waking from longer sleep sessions leaves icons on the left (I only have them on the left) unclickable. For the record, this is a brand new PC with Windows 11 Pro. All updates installed (but not an insider). I have just performed the true uninstall of the web experience package as described above using a terminal windows so we'll see if that helps. FWIW, my PC has no S3 mode available, even through bios settings. It only supports S0 modern standby and hibernate, both of which I have disabled. That is, if I run powercfg -a, it reports S0 and S3 both as unavailable on this system. Hibernate is also not listed as an option since I have it turned off. Windows Power settings set to sleep = never, turn monitor off only after 5 minutes, so technically, the PC is always fully on as modern standby has been disabled completely because I need to run tasks using Task Scheduler overnight, and modern standby doesn't allow TS tasks to run when it moves to its deepest states of power savings.

In any event, I'll keep watching this thread for more updates and I'll let you know if the problem returns even after uninstalling the web experience package.
Update: after the true uninstall of the web experience package, the last three "long sleep wake ups" have allowed me to click desktop icons immediately.

Thank you, thank you!

I have been dealing with this exact issue ever since I received my new Windows 11 computer, just 6 weeks ago.

I read through the entire thread and was so interested in the development of the group effort towards a resolution. Props to Eleven Forums (and its predecessors) for attracting some of the sharpest minds in Windows-land.

Editing group policy to disable widgets solved the problem for me.

I don't think Microsoft will patch this, though I'll be glad to be wrong, since there's nothing in it for Microsoft, who wants everyone to use a Microsoft account and all the new features of Win11, including widgets.

Using Windows 11 and earlier every day I have been running into most common bugs. So I have an idea how to deal with them. This has much improved as I work as a Computer Technician and have to troubleshoot others' computers as well. Elevenforum.com and all their earlier forums gives me the opportunity to share that knowledge and also expand it by learning tricks and solutions I hadn't thought of before. Thanks to you all.

Hello !

However, Microsoft does not intend to fix this problem through an update ?
On my home computer, I have this problem on Windows 11 and on the work computer, also with windows 11, this problem does not exist.
Do you have any idea why some computers are affected and others are not?

I guess it has to do with rendering the graphics of a unseen popup window. Some graphics drivers render it without any issue while others have difficulty interpreting the graphics commands (DirectDraw or Direct3D) issued by the system and get stuck until they resolve the situation. Upgrading the graphics drivers might help, maybe not.

If this matters, I have a display resolution of 1440x900 and the scaling is at 100%. If anyone has a 1920x1080 or higher resolution with larger than 100% scaling (125% or 150%), try resetting scaling to 100% to see if anything changes.

I'm running 1920x1080 and no issue with 100% except too small for my 24" monitor so usually run at 150%. I have the monitor on a KVM with computers running Win10, Win11, Win7 and Linux Mint, all the same settings. They are all connected via VGA cables but the Win11 has to use a DisplayPort adapter to the VGA cable. 1920x1080 is the highest [Recommended] resolution the onboard graphics adapters can handle and 175% for the magnification.

My GeForce 1050 has no VGA output, so I am using a Display Port to VGA adapter for the main monitor (1440x900, 60Hz, 100% scaling) and HDMI cable for the second (1920x1080, 60Hz, 8-bit per color channel, RGB full range, 100% scaling). Latest Studio version nVidia graphics drivers (to maximize stability and video rendering performance, I am not a gamer).

Thanks for this but I will wait for it to pop up in settings page. I am on October 31st update, it will be offered to me soon. I don’t want to brake anything since I never installed updates outside settings app/control panel
