I have had the same issue since since computer was brand new with Windows 11. I have trried every possible fix I have come across and no permanent solution. This happens everyday and have to CTRL-ALT-DEL then ESC to resolve but happens a few hours later - we need a fix permanently?

It looks like an application running in the background causing the issue. Try disabling all Startup applications and some services you don't need.

I bought a new laptop for work today and it also has this same issue as does my desktop pc. I did send feedback on the issue a few months ago.

Can we change the title of this thread from "very minor" to "major" or "annoying" desktop icon issue?

Same problem here on 2 PCs with W11. So I decided to put one on Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23440
24h without problems. No freeze icons on the left side . Let's hope it's not a placebo

Do you know what that debloater disables? We would need to disable the programs one by one to find the culprit.

Guys, I downloaded a debloater for windows 11. Thisiswin11. After debloating the issue was completely gone. It is definitely a program issue:
I read about it just now and am not certain what I should do. It says it has 5 modules.

Module 1 - Presenter: The start screen guides you through an pictured introduction to the new operating system Windows 11 and allows you quickly to configure it. I don't think I would need to configure Windows 11 since other than this problem this thread is about, I am happy with the way it is configured.

Module 2 - PumpedApp: This module allows you checking and optimizing Windows 11 configuration among other things (all changes made can also be undone). Seems like this is needed but I would have no idea what changes to tell it to make.

Module 3 - Kickassbloat will help you removing pre-installed Windows 11 apps. Not sure what I would remove.

Module 4 - Packages is there for you to quickly install one or the other app. If this is to "debloat" Win 11 why install more apps?

Module 5 - PowerClicks allows you automating several Windows 11 tasks based on PowerShell and community scripts. Not sure I would ever need this.

So my questions are, does this program run automatically or take user input from someone knowing a lot about the inner works of a computer and Win 11 to be specific? Do you know if this runs with Start11 installed?

I am downloading it but not using it until I feel more comfortable about knowing what a "debloater" does. It sure sounds like a great find though. Thanks for posting it.

One application to disable/enable some Windows stuff is O&O Shutup for Windows 10, not sure if it works in 11 as well. Another is Winaero Tweaker, provided you know what you are doing.

Hello everyone, I had the same problem and nothing helped. Now I bought a new graphics card and installed the current Nvidia driver. Since then, the error no longer occurs: Old graphics card and driver: GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3070 Eagle OC 8G LHR, Nvidia 531.61 New graphics card and driver: MSI GeForce RTX 4070 VENTUS 3X 12G OC, Nvidia 531.68 I haven't made any other changes to my PC. Best regards!

Are you sure you had the official drivers with RTX 3070? Maybe Windows Update had messed with your drivers and reinstalling the official nVidia driver after replacing the card fixed the issue.

Yes I am sure that with the "old" card I also had the official driver. I just wanted to let you know that I no longer have this problem and what has changed in my PC system since then. Whether and why it has something to do with the changes, I can not judge.

When in doubt run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to completely remove the old drivers before installing the new one.
