Virtual Memory Maybe still too high

Hello All

Anyone happen to know why my virtual memory always shows high currently allocated in Windows 11 Pro 26100.4946




Does it go higher when i had external drive connected? and nothing to worry on? i tend to worry alot

It's weird, as I've noticed the system managed virtual memory on my intel PC's tends to pretty much mirror the physical RAM of those machines. The 64GB RAM machine will set a swap file size of near 64GB and the virtual memory in use will almost mirror the physical memory in use. Same goes for the 32 GB machine, swap file will mirror the 32GB physical RAM size and actual memory in use. The Windows build doesn't matter either.

Yeah not sure what causes it, i honestly shouldn't be using much virtual memory as 32GB of DDR5, don't think what i have open is going over that lol as far as i know

May have to just live with it, and not worry on it anymore soon, as guess could just be a unresolved bug in WIndows 11, but not sure either on that part lol

Compression algorithms require a LOT of RAM to run without needing to write to the pagefile. Even if you debloated windows, aren't creating iso files or video editing, there's still windows updates and new application installs. That's the probable culprit.

Oh ok, well if running as suppose to, then in that case I'll relax then.

Most people don't realize this, but the actual RAM required to install an application from a compressed package without using temp files or virtual memory is always somewhere just south of 2x the size of the full application with all of its files uncompressed.

This is probably just a glitch.

Simply set it to no paging file, reboot and reset it to system managed - large file will be deleted and new one with much more modest size created.

Unless you are really using very memory intensive apps, the page file will be modestly sized. If it keeps growing, this could mean you have a memory leak.

If you have 16GB or more RAM, you should hardly do any paging unless running say zillions of tabs in browser or megasized Excel spreadsheets.

Firestorm X64 bit VIewer (For SecondLife)

EA App For Battlefield 2042 and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered

Steam App: American Truck Sim, Euro Truck SIm 2, Forza Horizon 5, Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, Wreckfest (September 9th Firefighter Simulator Ignite)

MS Office 365 Outlook Classic, MS word, Occasionally Excel and Powerpoint

Spotify for Music listening if i stream any

I suppose one of my daily apps could have a memory leak, but no idea if they do for sure or not, If Mystic Light worked fine with my standard user account, i'd just use that, but it didn't

Windows 11 is also fully up to date

My page file has been 4.0GB for ages, and I frequently have a bunch of apps open. However, I also have 64GB of memory, so I think that's the default size.

So far seems to be running much better after following cereberus suggestion of turning off, restarting, and turning back on system managed. So far staying at the Recommended 4877MB, all programs so far seem to be working fine.

Time will tell if all good for sure now

Are we talking page file or swap file here? Like I said my swap file when Windows managed basically mirrors my physical memory. My page file doesn't use anything.

You obviously have a ton of things running right now.

Well maybe i got more than i think running--Closes a few things, and see if it helps any, and goes from there i suppose. Or Resets it later to Automatically System Manage for All Drives setting, and see if any better.

**a few Edge tabs open as downloading a mod for Euro Truck Simulator 2, but after thats done, i'll be closing all by one Tab or minimum 2**

Well the settings didn't work, set back to Windows Default now, and rechecked Automatically manage for all drives, as without that setting set, FIrestorm 64bit SecondLife viewer crashes first with Discarded Textures, then it goes Out of Memory and crashes to Desktop.

So back to original settings lol, and just gonna relax now
