Solved W11 size?

Your Program Files and User folders together, are 20GB bigger than mine. That's where most of the GB are.
Our Windows folders are about the same size though.

I only have ONE User account (2.17GB), on this computer.

I think clean install would be the best solution......I don't have any specific, advanced Programs apart from drivers, 2 browser, MBAM, some utilities.

I think you're right. Clean install always helps. :-)

I have all my docs, pics, videos on a storage drive.

I didn't "move" the folders Microsoft put in the User folder.
I just made my own folders, and put everything in them. :-)

@garlin , care to jump in with your expertise, I'd appreciate that.

Thanks.
...I'm not a frickin genie

Windows folder size as reported by Explorer is misleading, because WinSxS is incorrectly counted -- as most of the installed Windows files are actually hard linked copies of WinSxS components. This topic comes up over and over. The only thing that is accurate is non-Windows folder space, and free space left on the disk.

If you run DISM cleanup, it can reduce some bloat by removing older copies of files which were replaced by the monthly updates. For those hardcore users who prefer to wipe/re-install every few months, you're not accumulating junk fast enough to see a major difference.

Determine the Actual Size of the WinSxS Folder
On my W10 Pro machine the total of the folder sizes Windows, Users, etc. is much less than half of 'Used space' in C:
All sizes are looked at in 'Properties'

Is the above quote the misleading optical illusion that I am looking at?
The discrepancy is very big though, it is a factor, not a percentage.

Well, I ran

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

but only reclaimed a scanty 2 GB, so that can't be the issue.

Sorry @Alex__ASSR I didn't want to hijack your thread, I may start a separate thread if I understand the issue a bit better.

That doesn't have anything to do with his windows install size though so not sure why that's even relevant, Hey my downloads folder is 180gb just as a side of some more random info :) FYI my windows education install is 22.8gb, users is at 68.8gb. Program files are 36.2gb. Games alone are 380gb on one drive and 150 on the other. Sue me

Yup. Used that post whilst responding to you last time, You're installs are close to the same yup, I dont see why the rest is relevant when he asked about his windows size, User folders etc dont add to you're windows size so im not sure why you started quoting those numbers.

The only thing that comes to my mind when I had W11 approx. 41 GB in total.....

1. Dell Diagnostic ran, installed a few and missed a few critical updates.
2. One was a 1.6 GB Intel Xris Video driver, which I downloaded from Dell drivers and downloads.
3. Intel support app, diagnosed 3 more missing drivers, including an updated video driver.

My laptop is running smooth no issues, is there a method to uninstall ALL drivers, and let Dell Diag. app install?

Thanks again for the replies!!

And you would gain, what? Why are you trying to fix a system that isn't broke?

I'm in the same land of confusion here. Unless you are out of disk space, what is the point of continuously scouring your system to reclaim every single bit of disk space?

Everybody here is going to have a different amount of disk space consumed as we all use our computers for different purposes. My windows directory on my wok laptop is 52GB. Whoop-de-doo. I use it for a bunch of different things and I would expect a fair amount of disk space to be used. But I'm not having any issues.

Same thing goes for memory. Memory is the fastest place on the system for things to be stored in. I would like to use as much of my purchased RAM as possible. Retrieving it from RAM is faster than any other location. I don't see the point in buying a bunch of RAM and then doing everything humanly possible to reduce it's consumption. Why leave it sitting there empty all of the time. Might as well not have the extra RAM.

I truly don't see the problem. If the drive has enough storage space, why worry? I have a 1 TB SSD and my drive C: uses 260 GBs. My Windows directory uses 27.1 GBs. My desktop has 16 GBs of ram, and I've never ran out of momory. In fact, 16 GBs is the most any of my computers has ever had.
