WATCH OUT FOR RAM PRICES!

But all the problems with job losses in the Rust Belt, (industrial Midwest, for non-US people) alcoholism and drug abuse, opioid deaths, etc, point to the tremendous dislocations caused by job losses.

That type of disruption started in the 70s, long before the existence of AI. Much as I'd like to blame AI for that, we can't.

And it's fair to say that social programs, etc., did not begin to address all these issues.

What social programs.

Is the government, at any level, prepared to cope with the job losses caused by AI? Answering my own question, the answer is a sad and resounding NO.

And it doesn't matter which political power is in office. None of them will be able to cope. AI is already here and they're just not ready to deal with it.

"Cavemen probably thought the wheel would take jobs. Sure, but only in the short term. Long term, AI and robots will propel humanity forward to greater heights"

Sounds like an AI bot who said it. 😄

I don't think the wheel ever took away jobs but it certainly multiplied them. The comparison is crass at best. How many jobs is AI actually generating? I think industrial automation would be a far more accurate comparison and it did in fact result in job losses. Sure. People found other ways of earning income. Many of them got to work for reduced wages in an inflationary economy. Before we knew it both mom and pop were employees because it was getting a whole lot harder to pay off that mortgage with a single household income. BUT AI is something other. . . It literally consumes jobs.

Politicians only understand one thing: The smell of money. Bureaucrats and the like (including judges, lawyers, solicitors etc.) barely understand technology and what can be done with it. He who has the gold makes the rules. So take a wild guess where that puts us. Now I'm not saying judges or magistrates or people like that are corrupt. Are they corrupt? Do they take orders from the extremely wealthy untouchables? Oh hardly. They're just ignorant. They're clueless about tech. They haven't a clue about how AI works or what it can do. But one thing a judge does know: A judge knows that some people are more equal than others and the ones who are more equal than others are the ones with the gold.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Says People Having RAM In PCs Instead Of Data Centers Is Terrible

🤣🤣🤣

"Some of what Altman is saying is based on an idea that data center buildouts won't slow down."

A stupid assumption on Altman's part that doesn't fit in with reality.

And remember too that it's Sam's job is to keep his stockholders happy. That's all him and his type care about.

"It also assumes that RAM being used in AI data centers 24/7 is more worthwhile than RAM that is used for spreadsheets, web browsing, gaming, and maybe even local AI occasionally."

Or how about building computers that don't need RAM. Is that possible? Or does everything have to be moved to a data center cloud? Even if the end user doesn't want it?
