What are good PDF editors, besides Adobe Acrobat Pro?

You need to run it on Linux -- but if you use a Linux VM or the WSL from Windows --problem solved. Basic editing such as annotation, adding text etc available,

It depends on what you need to do of course to the PDF file.

Okular runs on Windows, but it can only be downloaded and installed from the MS Store, and the latest version available is almost one and a half year old (from August 20223). Four new stable versions were released on 2024, none of them is available on the Store.

Sorry - Awakening an old but useful thread. However many reasonably say that it depends on what one wants without being specific.
I no longer need the power of the Adobe version I used when either the employer paid or later, it was at least tax deductible. Now I just need to be able to open a PDF document and convert it to a text or Word document, or cut and paste text to some other program - Word, or Publisher usually. I would also like to be able to merge files - the way Adobe does - merge a selection of PDF, DOC, JPG, etc. And that's it.

I installed from the .exe, I hadn´t seen it. But this are "untested nightly builds", not stable versions.

I also noticed that with this installation there isn´t a straightforward way to define Okular as the default PDF reader, although it can be done from File Explorer.

settings > default apps > by file type
in the search box place PDF
then choose Okular as default.

I found the Okular application to be a clean, simple and easy to navigate UI, with basic tools. Sufficient for the average user.

The SwifDoo Pro trial however, is packed with options, but the Electron UI is a convoluted mess. Bit of a learning curve.

Yeah..., I just wanted to see if Okular would integrate properly with Explorer, etc.
I thought changing the default back to Sumatra would fix it, but, nope! Oh well, geeft nix! ;-)
