What fraction of users have migrated to Windows 11 on their main system?

At the time Windows 11 was announced none of my machines were supported for Windows 11. I have now upgraded my two main machines to Windows 11. In both cases I bought used machines that were less than a year old and migrated my OS and apps to the new machines. They are System One in my specs below, and the 'System Three' described in the 'Other info' section.

System One initially ran the Insider build since July, and now the release build since 20th October. The other machine runs all my Hyper-V VMs and has been running the release build since the beginning of October.

If you're only counting machines that are fully supported then I would say the numbers are pretty high. Everyone has said it's outpacing what Windows 10 did in replacing 7. That 9% is old news and takes all systems running Win 10 into account. I would not be surprised to learn that the number of qualified systems that have been upgraded was at least 60%. I'm pretty confident that it's higher though. The total number among all machines is probably about 20% now.

My one compatible machine is on 11. The unsupported ones are on 10 and will stay there.

My main laptop, the one I am on is upgraded to Win11. My other laptop is still on Win10 for now until windows 10 is no longer supported then I will upgrade it. I spend most of my time on Windows 11 laptop.

I guess people do come her to get advice on upgrading to 11 from 10 so it's a mixed bag. Most of the big issues users face is understanding the new requirements that MS has for Win11 more than anything else

Same with my house. I'm running the Dev builds as my main OS on two desktops and one laptop from day one of the Insider release. I upgraded my wife's laptop the day before the official release. Even my son updated his new desktop to Win eleven the day he set it up. I run Windows 10 and Linux Mint in VMs.

Ya think? And I found updated stats that said approximately 16+% have gone to Windows 11. And so will I once Microsoft sees fit to put back some of the things we all miss.

It's not the change I don't like so far, Jerry. It's the fact that Microsoft has taken most of our ability to customize Windows 11 to our liking.

That said, I use Windows 11 DEV Channel daily for testing. And will continue to use Windows 10 as my main system.

I have three machines at home, all of them should be supported (all purchased within the last year) and none of them are on Win11. I only have 11 on a separate drive on my desktop for evaluation and curiosity. I see no need to switch the OS on my main work machine (same desktop, different drive) and especially on the laptops. I just don't understand why would anyone do so. I get it, if I buy a new machine in the future, it will probably be Win11. But what's the point of changing the OS on a working machine?

For me, it's the challenge of testing something new. But, testing and using an already stable OS are two different things.

Normally I would have upgraded when it became available but having to install vendor software to replace functionality that Microsoft removed is keeping me on Windows 10 for now.

I have no issues with 11. The things people say are missing I never used anyway. A lot of the new features I will never use either. My machine definitely does run faster on 11 than it did on 10. Updates go faster as well. I've gotten used to the Start menu and things being centered. I have done no tweaks with software or registry hacks. I just give it a

I'm not opposed to using vendor/3rd party software in the least. For me, Microsoft has pretty much crippled Windows 11 for customization. There are also apps and programs I use for things Microsoft doesn't include. As a f'r instance, in the case of Paint, which is OK for resizing and small jobs, etc., but it's not a full fledged graphics program. Nor did Microsoft intend it to be. I use a third party graphics program for the big jobs and Paint for small jobs.

Some folks cannot afford Microsoft Office/365. Instead they use one of the comparable office programs such as Libre Office. I need to learn more about that one because some of my senior citizen students want to use it instead of Office because they are on fixed income.

There are many other programs Microsoft doesn't include at all. One of which is Roots Magic 8 that comes to the top of my head because I use it for finding my ancestors.

Bottom line is that if third party software works better than what Microsoft includes, or if Microsoft didn't include it, I don't see a problem with making Windows more usable with additional software.

We don't complain about using apps and programs created by other vendors if they aren't in Windows. Why then is it so terrible to use an app, utility, or program to improve the way Windows works?
