Switched on my laptop this morning and it had a sort of mini OOB start - going through the whole thing of do you want to link your phone, do you want a trial of Office, do you want to use One Drive etc etc. So I assumed there must have been some big feature update installed after I turned off the computer last night (but didn't see anything when shutting down or starting up today). Checked Windows updates and the only recent thing that seemed to be installed was a Microsoft Defender update.

Why would that do that?

I've heard that if you don't complete that when it initially comes up, it CAN run at what seems like a random time later to get you to do it. Not sure, but I guess that's what happened.

It could also be due to a setting you have missed, maybe under personalisation, device usage.

This computer was only set up oob recently - about 3 weeks ago. I went through all those settings then. Very strange. It seems significant it happened at the same time as an update for Defender. Oh well.

It happening when Defender updated is a coincidence and nothing more.

One of those blue pages that have some choices one can make also has a choice at bottom left about "Remind me in 3 days" or something to that effect, clicking that hides the page but it will come back at a later reboot.

Un-tick all these boxes in System > Notifications > Additional settings (find it hiding right at the bottom of the page).

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.
