That trick works perfectly on latest 24H2 (non insider) release. Copy from prev rel of W11 / W10.
But as I have Ms Office anyway I don't really have a need for it.. Notepad (bog standard version) is just perfectly suitable for me if I just want a quick basic text editor.

And for those who use Linux whether as a VM / host / WSL you can't really beat the KDE editor KATE --if you need something a bit more complex but not requiring the features of a full blown Word processor like Ms Word -- plus KATE can syntax check while entering XML, C, C++ plus all sorts of other stuff too.

As I much disliked the "new" Wordpad, I just dragged over a copy of Old Wordpad from the XP system, put it in my \Utilities folder where Windows can't mess with it, and it works perfectly fine on Win11.

Same for Notepad, Paint, and pretty much all the Accessories that haven't changed enough to notice since Win3.0.

Yeah, there are a lot of editors out there. Wordpad hits a uniquely-sweet spot of just enough features and utter simplicity, and it writes clean code, which I can't say of most editors that do RTF.
