Right click on desktop and select 'view'. Make sure 'auto arrange icons' is unchecked and 'align icons to grid' is checked. Position your icons where you want them and then hit the F5 key to see if it will lock them in place.

thanx,, will see if it works for me.. unfortunately in flight sims, the F5 is an extremely important key for putting your cockpit position in center.

did not fix it... I have a utility to save them, doesn't fit it either. I have a much older utility that works, but should not have to resort to this non-sense.

Just an educated guess here, but Flight Similator has probably remapped the f5 key in the registry.Try holding down the FN key and then hit F5 to see if it makes a difference in refreshing.

it saves the icons for the most part, but there are some icons it just refuses to put in the right place. Not many, but is still a pia. I think that while isn't going to drive anyone insane it is still b.s.

Please try this free utility. Works for me. (In Windows 11, after you right-click the desktop for dialog box -- you'll have to choose "Show More Options...". You'll see a 'Desktop Restore' option, which leads to 'Save Desktop' or 'Restore Desktop' [restores previously saved desktop icon positions]. Hope you'll find this as useful as I have.) Note: I've always chosen the first option of 'Download Desktop Restore' (never tried the other option there.)

I am back to using a utility named Relcon to save desktop icon positions. The 24H2 Win11 version wrecked the desktop icon positions... totally wrecked it.. it was working perfect until this nonsense version of Win11 came along!

why doesn't Win11 save icon positions? How to make it save positions?
Take a snapshot of your desktop (WIN+PrtScrn) with your icons in their correct places & use this as your desktop image

It won't keep in the same place; however, they are easily moved back to where they should be!

It works perfectly, you must have something on your system messing with it so it's unfair to blame Windows.

I don't have a problem with Desktop icon positions unless I mess with screen resolution or Taskbar size, etc. 🤷‍♂️
