Why make Windows 11 like Windows 10

I agree, I really cannot see why people try to install 11 with incompatible hardware, from my experience of what I have heard it either runs slooow or has many errors

It sorta depends on what you mean by "incompatible." This PC meets all of the other MS listed specs, but has a 7th generation i7 CPU. That CPU is perfectly capable of running 11, and I'm running the latest version of it. It's fast as lightning, and the only errors I've found are my own, not 11's. So there's really incompatible and there's for-the-moment-MS-says-it's-incompatible.

It's simply not compatible. That's the fact and there's no getting around it. You can use it but I wouldn't expect support later on.

Hi Dan, I see what you mean. MS called a lot of 7th gen processors incompatible so I take that as being right. One person suggested to me that it is to do with the number of cores and may lead to problems if used to heavily. Weather this is true or not I have no Idea but it does sort of make sense.

While I fully understand the frustration some are going through MS has set the specs and they eliminated old processors. Why? I don't know and it would be nice if they came out and told us why but, I doubt they'll do that. As they say.. Acceptance is the answer to all of my problems...

No, the official line from Microsoft is that only processors for which the manufacturer (Intel or AMD) support the new 'Windows Driver model' will be supported by MS for Windows 11. The (very few) 7th gen Intel processors that have now been added to the supported list do have such drivers available. For the vast majority of 7th gen, and for all earlier generations, Intel do not supply such drivers, so MS will not support them for W11.

The older devices that are not on the list need a hack to install and run Win 11. I'm sure if there is a way MS will stop the ability to use the hack. Then those that want as the say The latest and greatest will have to upgrade their devices. Surprise, surprise MS not only has a new OS but new devices to run the OS on.

It was always like that, makes sense that MS offers devices to fit new OS first. They no best and first what new windows would require and be first to offer such devices. Just another page for Apple book.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

I just miss the total customization ability of the Start Menu that evolved in W10 (to flog the dead horse).

I'm not really interested in a 3rd party solution for Start, especially since I don't want to go back to pre-10 start either. I really like most everything in 11, but the start menu, for those who like organizing their start menu is disappointing. Categorization is/was a huge plus . Seems most have their way of doing things and that's fine and some don't like certain changes and that's fine as well. I suffered through a lot of network printer and pc communication issues in 10 that I never had in 7, so they all gots their flaws...

It's not a character flaw, it's just a preference. It doesn't require approval or disapproval.
The Recommended section is a waste, IMHO. And, for as much as it has been complained about, feedbacked about (with the obligatory generic "we're looking into it" response) and written about in one article after another, it is fairly obvious it is here to stay. ANY customization would help

So I will continue to Multi-boot 10 and 11, get used to the changes and try to devise a new way for me to personally navigate my programs, er, um apps in the most comfortable way I can. And then when Windows 12, the best windows yet comes along, I'll do it again:LOL:
