why why why can I not remove BT mouse?

Everything has been working smoothly with my new BT adapter. It handled my earbuds and my mouse. Today I made the mistake of putting an SD card in to the one remaining usb slot to offload some pix. Mistake! Killed the mouse app and when I say remove it, "remove failed" -- of course no attempt at fixing this has worked (for me) so I am looking at a usb hub.

It adds at least one more usb port which is really all I need. Unless someone can get that unremovable mouse removed.

I had an IdeaPad for several months before I traded it to my grandson, worked fine with the BT that is part of the onboard/built-in Wireless/Wi-Fi adapter. Never had an issue with USB thumb drives messing up the Targus BT mice I used with it.

As for the trade, my side was I got a 2010 Dell 17" Notebook with Win7 that won't install Win10 so now is running Linux Mint just fine and of course, I made points in the family. Downside to it was the Wireless was only 2G but he had a requirement for 5G so I'm using a USB dongle for the Wireless and BT.

have you tried removing the BT adapter from the device manager and then restarting the system.

Could open the BT icon on the Notification Area to manipulate the mouse.

Steve - not just unplugging it but removing it from device manager. That makes sense. I'll give it a whirl. Thanks.

I did that but mouse did not show up. I'll try Steve's suggestion.

again please check in the device manager but this time use
top bar > view > show hidden devices

and check disk drives and USB for greyed out entries
greyed out entries in the device manager are devices that have been used or attached and the system remembers them for later use.

remove any reference to the SD card that you used, it should be a greyed out entry in the device manager.

refresh the drive manager, a restart maybe required, then try BT.

I found the Transend SD card in the disk drive section and removed it. I see a couple of greyed out entries in the usb section. I will remove them as well. On the top line of the BT section, the BT mouse is greyed out. Should that be removed as well? This all looks like a solution!

I ordered that usb hub which will come in handy even if all of this is solved. Hopefully, it will not be a new PIA!! Thanks so much.

deleting the greyed out entries wont cause any problems as they are no longer in use by the system.
also deleting anything by mistake will just require a restart for Windows to reload the required drivers.

edit.
i assume that you have also checked settings > Bluetooth and devices
and removed/disconnected anything/everything in these settings.

Steve -- Question- now that everything is working wirelessly, I have one open usb slot. I would like to use it for downloading picts off my SD card or hooking up my external drive. Do you know if I try to use that slot for anything else, as in sd card or my external drive, will I run into the same issue as before? The issue was fixable but it took a bit of doing. As long as the fixable part continues. I guess I will try to use the slot for other needs.

BT is most convenient -- when it doesn't create problems. Thanks again.

have you thought about a USB hub with a SD card slot to use in that USB port.
i have a 3 USB port hub with SD card slots for micro and mini SD cards.

3 Port USB 3.0 Hub with Multi-In-1 Card Reader
