Why Windows 11 is a Big Deal to Me

Now, last time I saw a Mac, they separate the menu bar (the strip above a window with buttons and menus) from the window itself, put it on top of the screen, and make it full width of the screen. When you switch to a different window, the contence of that bar changes to reflect the newly selected window. In contrast, Windows attaches the menu bar to each window, so I can have many windows open and each of them will have it's own set of controls. To me, that's the deal breaker - I strongly prefer the Windows system. To me that's even more important than the fact that things I use daily, such as Microsoft Office, work poorly on Macs (and no, no other "free" or "open source" office is an adequate replacement).
The Mac paradigm, which came first so it certainly can be improved, came about because they noticed that when people wanted to move the mouse to the Menubar they could get there much easier when it was at the top of the screen.

Try it out, Position the mouse in the middle of the screen, then move as quickly as possible to the Menu in a Windows App. Now move your mouse back to the middle of the screen move as fast as possible to the top of the screen.

You can't miss the top of the screen because the mouse cursor is stopped by the physical limitation, no matter how far you moved the mouse.

Sure, people get used to their UI, but Apple was looking for the little things that made things easiest and fastest for most users. Which is better depends entirely on what you learned first.

And you are absolutely correct, for people who are not engineers, administrators, super users, and tech support, the UI is the OS. A concept that Microsoft really pushed for in its customers.

Heh, well that's true enough. But I have to assume my Grandkids are honest. ;)

We're the same age, however!
I can remember when I use to think that people in their thirties were old. Now I look at them as being young.

I really started feeling old when I was reenlisting sailors in the Navy that had not even been born when I joined the Navy.

I don't think I ever had a problem of missing the menu when I need it ;), but I also never made a sport out of it, I don't try doing such things "as quickly as possible", why would I? As far as my productivity is concerned, nothing in the OS or UI is a limiting factor. In any case, mouse behavior is configurable, so if your mouse is moving too far too fast, just tweak the settings and it will stop doing so.
