Solved Will both drives activate?

Quick question - and I should know the answer really, but just checking. So if I take my drive out, with Windows 11 installed and activated, and replace the drive with a new one, clean install Windows 10 and activate - if I then swap the old drive back, will that still activate?

Yes assuming same edition e.g. both Home or both Pro.

Good point. Current install is home. I do have a pro licence for Windows 10 but presumably could activate and then upgrade to Pro online. Which presumably would then upgrade to Windows 11 pro if I do an upgrade to 11 again at some point on that machine.

Once you have activated on in Pro, you can upgrade both installs to Pro.

Also, there is a place in System to change the Product Key, I've used it a few times to "upgrade" to Pro. Most of the files needed are already in Home and it doesn't take long to make the change then activate. The key is to use a previously unused Win10 or Win11 key, don't know if a Win7 or Win8.1 key will still get the upgrade.

Yes I think I've done that before but can't remember exactly :-) . Actually is there any real benefit of Pro these days? I got it for Windows 10 to have more control over the updates but I don't think that's necessary any more is it?

I haven't seen where the Pro is actually better for a home user or consumer over the Home version. But if a number of users have access to the computer the Pro may offer more options for security, permissions, etc.

Any valid Windows 7 Professional or Windows 8.0 Pro (original version) or Windows 8.1 Pro or Windows 10/11 Pro key can be used, been there done that. Also the respective Home (core) keys can activate Windows 11 Home.
