Solved Will W11 run on this computer

Hey gang, my neighbor kid has an older computer (see specs below) wants me to install W11 on it ! I think it will run fine but won't leave him much room, only about 4 GB after the download ! He is a poor kid & no money right now to update or get a new computer ! So what would your suggestions be to install W11 because according to PC Health Check up it will not run it ??

Well I’d probably suggest he stays on Windows 10 for now - it’s supported till 2025. Especially if he is short on hard drive space.

W11 does seem to install on most old hardware, with workarounds to remove the restrictions to newer computers only (via making a usb stick with Rufus). However there is no guarantee it will continue to work or get updates.

If he only has 4gb space left on hard drive then the only way to do it would be to back everything up and clean install on the 1tb drive.

Two backups:

1 A system image of the entire hard drive as it is now.
2) Copy and paste backup of all files, photos, music etc, screenshot a list of programs installed and save that to the back up to. Export bookmarks to the back up. Make notes of all subscription keys for currently installed programs (to reinstall them).

Then clean install Windows 11.

To do the backups you’ll need two external hard drives - one needs to be at least 1tb (for the system image) and formatted as ntfs. The other needs to be big enough to hold all his files and set to fat 32.

After that he could try windows 11 or put everything back as before if it doesn’t work out.

Best stay on win 10, he is not missing much and would be better of to have a good working win 10 machine

If there is less than 20 GB free space on a 1 TB hard drive, I would look at cleaning up the hard drive to get more free space as a first priority.

I'm with Hazel123 and The-Hive on this one. since this appears to be his only system, which looks like it's unsupported, I would advise him to stay on his current OS. As his situation improves, he can then get a new rig with Windows 11 when that time arrives.

As @NavyLCDR says, you need to free up space on that hard drive.
If you don't... even Windows 10 will start having problems.
I would say you need an absolute minimum of 50GB free space on a 1TB drive.
100GB free space would be better.

I'm gonna ask him to stay on W10 for now ...... thanks everyone !!
