Indeed, even after performing a manual cleanup it still shows, nowhere to be found. It is a bug.

Well, I've tried everything I know and I can't get anything to delete it. I can't even see anything on my drive that large in Wizztree. Only possibility, is that maybe storage sense will delete it once 1 day has passed (which is the shortest period I can set it for) but I'll not hold my breath. It's got to be a bug in Win 11 as Bobkn suggests.

The 8.63 is the same on everyone's PC so defintiely a bug.
It doens't get included in the Macrium backups

The Win11 24H2 update had turned system restore on which I thought was the culprit. But I don't think Macrium saves hyperfil or system restore points but I may be wrong. My saved backups are approx 4-5gb larger than before. I guess this version of Windows 11 is larger than the previous.

Yes, my previous setup had ~24GB, now it is ~29GB, clean installed just a week ago with the same size.

I've solved my issue. I had used the Windows 11 Installation Assistant as the page said This is the best option for installing Windows 11 on the device you’re currently using. After trying everything I could think of, I wondered if I reinstalled Windows 11 whether this would fix the bug.

I tried using the Installation Assistant again and it told me Windows 11 was already installed on my system. So I downloaded the Media Creation Tool and downloaded the ISO to a folder on my desktop. I used Winrar to extract the file, clicked on the setup.exe and it started installing. No option to carry on using Windows, but the familiar blue screen with the percentage slowly reaching 100%. It rebooted, said Hi and the usual getting a few things ready and got to my desktop.

Did all the usual post update cleanups, ran disk cleanup, uninstalled previous versions of Windows etc and.... no more 8.63GB of Update files.

Previously, I was unable to run sfc /scannow without finding errors but now, no system errors found.

SO, I'm going to mark this thread as Solved. I think it is that stupid Windows 11 Installation Assistant at fault not Win 11 itself. I'm a happy bunny now although another day wasted. I'd better spend some time with the Mrs now! :thumbsup:

Yep. The assistant is where the temp files were from. No bug. Just need to find the correct dir to delete.

Did all the usual post update cleanups, ran disk cleanup, uninstalled previous versions of Windows etc and.... no more 8.63GB of Update files.

Previously, I was unable to run sfc /scannow without finding errors but now, no system errors found.

SO, I'm going to mark this thread as Solved. I think it is that stupid Windows 11 Installation Assistant at fault not Win 11 itself. I'm a happy bunny now although another day wasted. I'd better spend some time with the Mrs now! :thumbsup:

So it sounds like a Repair install might be the answer.
