Deleted Previous Windows from Cache Already, as i typically clean up right away, til i noticed Windows Update Cleanup 8.63GB not going away.

Guess i should've waited a little longer on cleaning up

Quite a few people have reported the exact issue.
Some are related to the cumulative update but it seems that upgrading using the assistant is the culprit.

Not my experience. Did an in place upgrade from 23h2 to 24h2 via media creation tool, had these 2 issues as soon as the CU installed. Created a new boot disk using Rufus with official 24h2 from MS iso, same issue after CU brought it to .1882. Created a custom iso from uup dump directly to .1882 - same issue. Regardless of how you get there, the issues appear with .1882, not a fresh official 24h2 which is .1742

just wondering if resetting wu components with those 2 will clear it out and/or make it reflect proper sizes

Well it’s not really surprising that a Windows update error/isse is caused by different things for different members.
I’ve read the whole thread. So I concluded.

For what it’s worth, just ran those 2 suggestions, no apparent fix to the 2 issues at hand nor seemingly any other system changes that I can tell

I do weekly Macrium image backup.

The image tends to grow slowly in size with time. I have not checked the actual size of C drive.

The last 23h2 was 28 GB

For the 24h2 upgrade, I downloaded the ISO and burnt a USB stick. I then did the upgrade within win 11 and did a diskclean. The macrium image was about 20 gb.

I was not entirely happy with the upgrade and did a clean installation of win 11. I reinstalled most programs and moved all the data from old image to the new installation. Today my Macrium image was only 17 GB

Please increase storage, if possible and allowed. Future updates give a lot of problems, I have one Acer Switch One with 32 GB storage, now after a few years I can't update, the system keeps complaining for lack of space etc.,

I updated from mounted ISO and 24H2 is working fine but I do have the SFC and 8.63gb issue. I have cleaned all install files and folders including Win.old but interestingly I did a file count from indexing before update and it was 270827. At the moment it is over 470000 and still indexing! All exclusions are the same as before install. Could the system be indexing the phantom 8.6 GB?

No, I updated using the regular settings>Windows update and still found 8.63GB update files that can't be deleted.

No, the culprit is not Update Assistant. It's with the 26100.1882 preview update.

And the saddest part is that after deleting all the Windows update Cleanup, there's no way to roll back to uninstall the 26100.1882 preview update.

I’m not so sure about that but I’ll let someone else answer.
But I think most regular members would agree with me if I said, never install a Windows Update without doing a system backup first.
