Solved Win 11 24H2 Update Cleanup Issue

Many of us having the problem updated by mounting iso. So whether using Update Assistant or not will trigger the same problem.

My only computer not affected is the clean installed one.
My two computers updated via Windows Update also have the same problem.

SO, I'm going to mark this thread as Solved. I think it is that stupid Windows 11 Installation Assistant at fault not Win 11 itself.
Looks like OP prematurely concluded it was strictly related to installation assistant. Which has since been debunked. And even if it was installation assistant, that would be a cause, not a solution.

Since it does seem that both issues ( the undeletable 8.63gb of windows update cleanup files, and the recurring sfc /scannow corruption ‘fixing’ ) only begin to occur after the KB5043178 update to 26100.1882, it seems like 1 solution would be updating to the general availability build of 24H2 (26100.1742) and then pausing updates from there.

Another solution now that 26100.2033 has been released might be to clean install directly to this build via an ISO built from uupdump (Select language for Windows 11, version 24H2 (26100.2033) amd64). Would be curious if bypassing .1882 would solve the issue, and if anyone has gone that route yet and what their results were.

For those of us already with .1882 installed, it doesn’t appear that there is quite yet a resolution, as rolling back kb5043178 is not listed as an available LCU to rollback, and updating forward to .2033 also doesn’t fix it.

Only my opinion, but perhaps the OP believes this issue has been flogged to death. Simple fact is, that it is really a NON event issue, that does NOT affect the performance of one's device, but more individuals need for visual perfection rather than performance :)

I just did a reinstall of windows by upgrading it again & not download updates when installing & i see the 3 update it needs now & ran disk cleanup & 8.63 GB error is still there. The sfc /scannow still found errors & corrected them & appears when you run it again. This is telling me the patch Tuesday update files are not the issue.

Interesting. That’s helpful feedback. Since you just did a fresh install of windows anyhow, wanna do it again straight to .2033 and see if it fixes it? Select language for Windows 11, version 24H2 (26100.2033) amd64

Another strange thing I've noticed ... If I run sfc, it always finds problems and repairs them. Happens every time it is run, so apparently it doesn't fix anything.

But if I run sfc from the system minion window, it always returns 0-0. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought 0-0 was the normal return value when no problem was found.

I am on 24H2 Build: 26100.1742. I blocked all updates since. I don’t have the SFC problem. Nor do I have the Storage Sense/Disk Cleanup issues.

Just to let everyone know, I had the same issue of the 8.63GB Windows Update Cleanup files not deleting after updating to KB5043178.
I ended up wiping my system and fresh installing 24H2 ISO, which then was perfect, with no SFC errors and no 8.63GB cleanup files.
I then left the KB5043178 sitting in Windows Update in the optional install section.
Today KB5044284 appeared and installed automatically and the 8.63GB files are back, along with the SFC errors. Also KB5043178 disappeared from WIndows Update, as it had been superseded by KB5044284.
Other than that, everything in Windows works perfectly, so it appears there is just no avoiding the undeletable files and SFC errors until Microsoft fix them.

So, after updating from 26100.1882 to 26100.2033 and checked for Windows Update Cleanup it was showing 16 GB, and after I cleaned the files, it's now showing 8.63 GB but it's not showing in Disk Cleanup anymore.

It's a Microsoft issue. I did 3 machines 2 upgrades from 23H2 & 1 fresh install made from a ISO which was 26100.2033 as I just downloaded ISO file earlier today. It's not affecting performance or anything & will wait to see if they fix it.
