Win11 installation fail....Windows cannot be installed on Disk 0 Partition1

Trying to install win 11 from flash drive on Acer Swift 3....upon starting the setup first thing I noticed was no keyboard mouse working OK I plug in portable one and mouse curser appears...when it gets to where to install all it is showing is 1 partition with the notice Windows cannot be installed on disk 0 partition 1.....what`s gone wrong chaps and how can I rectify this please?

Maybe this video will help resolved the problem.

This guide aims to fix the error "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI system, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."

Currently using pc on win 10...no details given just Windows cannot be installed on disk 0 partition 1....no other information as to why given?

Did you deleted all partitions on the drive? Windows has to be installed on a unallocated space, not a partition.

Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.

As you have a UEFI BIOS, you should install as UEFI-GPT
Detach any other drives from the MB.

During POST, press F12(?) to launch the boot menu. You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name) to install as UEFI-GPT .
Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the main drive till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.
Don't enable updates or connect to the internet during installation.

If you want to use a local account What is "oobe\bypassnro"

Hi.

You may have to convert MBR disk to GPT (GUID Partition Table) before you start to install Windows as UEFI. You should use CONVERT GPT command in a command prompt console.

OK chaps thanks for all advice....well it seems through downloading the Win 11 iso on my Win 10 machine (this one) it downloaded it as MBR....hence my problem....so I had a brainwave why not download it on my second pc (Lenovo) running Win 11 and yes it downloaded as GPT so now hopefully no issues.....I,ll update later when I have finished.

A drive can be initiated as MBR or GPT.
A partition on a drive (MBR or GPT) can be formatted as Fat32, NTFS, ext4 etc.
A iso fie is like a compressed folder with all sub folders and files. The Iso file isn't MBR or GPT. The drive you save it to is.

To make a Win 11 iso installation file boot able as Legacy and or UEFI:

To be boot able as Legacy and /or UEFI to install as Legacy - MBR or UEFI- GPT (depends how you boot the drive) you have to extract all files and folders from the iso file (using 7Zip ) to a USB MBR drive partition formatted as Fat32 and the partition must also be set as Active.

The easy way to make a Win USB installation drive is to let MCT build it for you.

There aren’t two types of Windows 11 downloads, GPT & MBR, just one.
Downloading an ISO via Windows installed on an MBR partition, doesn’t make the ISO MBR.

I think your having a problem caused by the intel IRST driver. If you have RAID turned on in the BIOS, you can turn it off if you don't need to use RAID. What I think is happening is the the installer is only seeing your flash drive.

Glad to see you got your ACER up & running. Somewhere in this post someone mentioned the use of a local account : What is "oobe\bypassnro"... I used a newer version build of Windows 11 & Micro$oft inadvertently disabled &/or removed that option. 🤬🙄

FYI... If you want more control over Windows with the Windows 11 Pro version. Disable the internet by invoking "Airplane Mode" &/or unplugging your ethernet cable. Then, you just have to press WIN+I on your keyboard, go into Settings > Activaton > Change Product Key & replace your product key with this one:

VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

Once you have upgraded to Windows 11 Pro, connect your internet to the device, & then using a valid Windows 11 Pro product key to activate the newly installed Win 11 Pro.

I purchased mine on Amazon & since Micro$oft disabled the "oobe/bypassnro" option. The only way to create a LOCAL account without being linked to Micro$oft with an online account is to create another admin account with the same rank & privileges as the linked admin account, set it up as you normally would a linked account & DO NOT start to install anything on the linked admin account & switch to your local account. Then disable & delete the linked account.

Not true. There are other ways to install Windows without a Microsoft account.

You can check the option to setup a local account for a clean install using RUFUS
