Winareo Tweaker fails to launch


i dont use Windows defender i have AVG internet security
i can exempt (exclude) a program within AVG to allow it to run unimpeded

is that possible in Windows Defender ?
if it is it maybe a way forward.

I tried out Translucent TB and I was using Start11 mainly because those programs would get rid of the one or two pixel line that would show up at the bottom of the screen when the taskbar autohides. Apparently the latest Insider preview version has fixed this. There's no light gray line at the bottom of the screen when the taskbar autohides. It disappears completely. So, I uninstalled Start11. :D

I was able to allow the program to run in Windows Defender. At least at first. When I removed it from the allowed list, and tried to repeat the process, as a test, it would not let me allow it again. So, I'm using the Win8 compatibility mode as admin. Kinda weird all around.

You're talking about the conflict Tweaker has with Defender, that security issue, right?

Because I don't think Winaero itself has malware. Defender is flagging it because I think somebody at Microsoft deliberately marked Tweaker's (and similar software) code signature as malware. Why else do earlier versions have no problem but now all of a sudden this happens?

Yeah, I do have an extra ESET subscription and I was debating on whether to put it on this machine or not. I'm coming one step closer to doing that. Something to give less control to Microsoft over.

If you run the program in Windows 8 compatibility mode, it will launch.

OK. I didn't find any problems at all with 1.64.1.0. I only noticed problems with 1.64.2.0.
Maybe it was a coincidence then.

WT 1.64.2.0 still running OK today by running as administrator AND Win 8 compatibility.
Surprising to me to see posts in this thread reporting poster is uninstalling WT without commenting if they attempted to run as administrator and Win 8 compatibility.
I don't know about ARM machines. My machine is an Intel chip set.

What I did was go into Windows Defender and add Winaro as an exception. Now it runs ok :-)
