Probably the fan is clogged with dust and dirt. Opening the laptop case and cleaning the fan might have solved the issue. I just did this myself when I installed a new hard drive, and the fan was clogged to the hilt.

I'm planning on giving the laptop to family so I will be cleaning or replacing the fan if needed before I do. I would try a can of electronic duster but the way the laptop is made I don't think it will work. Instead of regular vent holes on the sides it has perforated holes on the top and bottom. As for being worth it, Yes it was. My wife is so happy with her new laptop that I would take those two trips to St. David again if I had to.

I was surprised to see, that when I opened my old 2017 Dell Inspiron 13 7378 and decided to rip the battery ribbon off when changing the battery (because I rule) there was no dust inside the case nor on the fan. I wouldn’t of thought this possible considering it has been used pretty much every day since purchase.

I have had it open before to replace the HDD with a SSD. It's not what I would call hard, just a pain. As I recall, to remove all of the screws I have to carefully remove one the rubber strips and then use something thin to pry it open. I do have a tool kit for laptops so I have the pry tools needed. When I'm ready I'll look up the How-To video I used the first time I opened it up.

@oldschool, I looked at some videos and one really stands out. In the video they are disassembling the laptop. I got as far as the cooling fan. As long as I take my time it definitely won't be hard. I will need to order some thermal paste so I think I'll go ahead and order a new fan while I'm at it.

I just ordered the cooling fan and thermal paste from Amazon. I should have them by Monday.

The way the Media Creation Tool works is that it first downloads a product.cab file from Microsoft that contains the details of the files it needs to download to make the ISO. If you run the MCT on its own then it downloads the latest products.cab which is now the one for 24H2. The MCT then constructs the ISO from components it will download from Microsoft.

What the MediaCreationTool.bat script does is downloads from Microsoft the appropriate MCT and products.cab for the version you have chosen. It then runs the MCT in 'self host' mode, meaning it will use the local copy of products.cab rather than try to download a new one. The MCT is still downloading everything from Microsoft, just the older versions as specified in the local products.cab.

Here you can see it has downloaded the ones for 23H2 from download.microsoft.com

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

You can get 23H2 from UUP Dump which is affiliated with Microsoft.

Grab any of the ones that do NOT have the word "update" in their title. Those are just... updates.

As for the rest, choose: arm64 for ARM processors, or amd64 for all normal CPUs.

Just extract the zip to a new folder, and double click the command.

Do NOT close the Command Prompt window until it tells you to.

use an older version of Rufus like either 4.3 to create your 23H2 ISO instead or running the latest version of Rufus
I only use latest Rufus version just for 24H2
