It's just a change in behavior. There is no longer a number there showing the number of notifications. Now, if there are no notifications you get an outline of a bell, if there are any notifications it is colored in.

OK. 🙏 Yes I have the blue bell, but it’s kind of oblivious to me. Having said that, I understand people can get annoyed by the littlest things, I certainly do sometimes. Edit: A lot.

So, those features don't depend on taking that Preview. That's what surprised me.

Oh, yeah: I'm not an Insider, and I'm not logged into a MS account. I'm just a Local Account kinda guy, but there's the Co-Pilot, right in my face. Until I turned it off, that is.

I checked for updates and I saw one optional at the Advanced section. I didn't install it but probably is to go to build 22621.1506

For what it may mean, both UUPDUMP.CN and UUPDUMP.NET have 22631.2506 as in-place upgrades, not just Insider choices.

I've used the .CN choice without issues. Quite normal, bog-standard in-place upgrade, with the usual caveat that font choices are not carried over.

Yes, it's so confused as to be incomprehensible.

I should have added in my comment above that both UUP choices, ie, CN and NET, list 22631.2506 as 23H2.

It appears to make little significant difference, as MS is obviously still squabbling internally. My one clear point of care is that this "revocation" jiggery pokery is not included in an upgrade without warning. Some might think this is unlikely, but with internal fighting in MS such an advent is not off the table.

If this is true, I doubt it, it means we can get 23H2 with a simple update without any compatibility check. However, I still wait for Microsoft to release the 23H2 on their site, just in case.

I suspect the update gives you only the basic features of 23H2. If you want all the features you must do the upgrade to 23H2 (for compliant computers). For us with unsupported computers we need the 23H2 ISO to apply our hacks and upgrade offline.

The 23H2 feature update is a small enablement package, our 22H2 system files already have all the new features in a dormant state. There's no need for an ISO, just a link to the enablement package, which Brink normally provides. The enablement package installs like a CU and doesn't have a compatibility check, I'm wondering if it may even be offered on unsupported devices in Windows Update.

My unsupported System Two got the 23H2 update in the brief window of opportunity while the 'in-place upgrade' loophole was still open, it got Copilot and all the other new features.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
