So Microsoft will have plugged part of the leak when the 24H2 arrives generally unless another workround is discovered.

If you install it now, you can expect to upgrade to the RTM version when it arrives in the fall. That was my experience when I joined the Dev channel in 2021, switched to the beta channel as the updates neared the final version and I left the Insider once I was on the final build.

That is what I'd expect to happen for 24H2 as well, though there can never be any guarantees it will work out the same way as before.

It's not a major concern for me though, as my Insider builds are running as native boot .vhdx alongside the PC's own main install of the RTM build.

sht, i just checked my box with LGA775 CPUs, 2 Celerons from 04, a Pentium Dual-Core from 05 and a Pentium Dual-Core + a 7300 Core2Duo from 06. so cant seem to upgrade that 775 system to 24H2 that has a Q6600 currently and 8GB 800Mhz ram and runs 11 23H2 perfectly fine. -.- noSSE4.2

This implies that your computer is Windows 11 compliant, otherwise you have to manually download the 24H2 ISO, bypass compatibility check and upgrade to the general release version.

The final build is the RTM version - you can check it and confirm the build number and if they're the same, you don't have to install it again.

You currently have an Insider's version (preview). To upgrade from a preview version to the RTM on an unsupported computer you must manually download the ISO and bypass compatibility check. You are not offered that upgrade through Windows Update if you have an unsupported computer.

I had a beta build that was the same as the announced RTM version. I left insiders and updated normally after it was released to the general public. If that doesn't happen prior to the RTM going gold, your advice is well taken.

This is going to be a problem. I run a few Dell Precisions and I love these workstations. The T7910 are relatively new and support SSE4.2, but these are running Ubuntu so no issues there. But my Precision T7400 does not, as it runs 2 x Xeon E5410. It’s running Win 11 23H2 great on these two Xeons and 128GB DDR2 RAM (DDR2!). This workstation has some PERC6 cards with a truckload of hdds which is great for data storage and also plenty of power for regular work on the workstation. I just hope I can keep going with 23H2 for another half a decade. The T7400 has been running nonstop for around 2 decades with zero faulty components. I really don’t want to swap these Precsions for consumer trash hardware.

I have an old computer still running Windows 10 v1809 without any issues as long as I keep Antivirus updated. Also many still use Windows 7 and even XP. So hopefully we can keep using Windows 11 23H2 at least five years after EOL.
