Solved Windows 11 24H2 has un-bypassable hardware requirements...


We stick with Windows 11 23H2. Until EOL there should be a workaround to upgrade to 24H2 or higher. Think positively.

It's already running Windows 11 :-) Just for fun obviously as it's quite slow. It did fine on 21H2 with a vista graphics driver, but it's not running 23H2 well anyway - right click stopped working unless I uninstalled the graphics driver and used the microsoft basic one, and I don't think it does have popcnt. It's on the old hardware thread. It ran Windows 11 better than 10 though and is useable. The hard drive was swapped for an ssd when it was on Windows 10 and runs on 2gb ram. 1015px from 2012

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
Fine Print-“Windows 11 version 24H2 is still in development. There is a chance that Microsoft will make changes to the system before its official release that removes the requirement”. 😁

Yes, that's the same cpu as my System Two test machine, and I've already tested it for 24H2 compatibility. In fact, I have already tested a clean install of 24H2 on it.

The i5-520M has SSE4.2 so it will also have PopCnt.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

Still using landlines! And coal fire (although buying coal is now illegal but smokeless and wood is allowed) and ancient cooker and very occasionally, a nokia bar phone. And mostly second hand furniture! And a 25 year old truck (not main car though) but it's very reliable. And pen and paper. And binoculars. Some people are still using analogue cameras as well.

I can relate, I still use my 98 GMC 5.7 Liter for my service work, it's still in great condition, still runs like a top, although I just had to replace an 02 sensor.

I've just revisited the 24H2 that got installed using setupprep and checked it over in more detail.

Yes it did install, but the 'product server' option seems to have made the installer leave a few things out. For example, if you look at the last screenshot in post #39 you'll see that the Widgets are missing. The GUI for Windows Security was also missing (just the GUI, the AV protection itself was running).

That was build 26052 I used for the install, enrolling for the Dev channel with the offline insider enrol script brought down the 26058 feature update that fixed all of the above. If using this workaround for RTM when it gets released an in-place upgrade after a setupprep install may be needed to complete the job.

Edit: I had originally intended to wipe the spare SSD I'd used after testing. But I think now I'll keep it and check back on 24H2's progress once in a while.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
I guess pretending you have a workstation includes (or hides) different components than having a regular PC. No worries, everything should be available in Settings, Apps, Installed Apps, System Components (scroll at the bottom)
