Very excited for 24H2, be awake to get system backup done at 09:00am. And make sure supported Windows 11 PC is all ready

I'm thinking to install latest (24H2, 26100.1742) in Virtual Machine and then upgrade to 24H2 Stable.
 
I was wondering why people are fixated on a particular date for the release of 24H2. When it is released it will not roll out to everyone at the same time. We all have to be patient. It will get to us when it is our time to get it.

Too many weird things have been reported in 24h2 insider for my liking. I don't do the release preview thing so I'll wait for general release.

I know a lot of folks here have systems that have been upgraded many times over and have no problems, but I have always been a glutton for punishment and done a clean install every couple of years and it's time. But since 23h2 was an enablement package and I'm not having any problems with it, I've gotten lazy so this may be one where I upgrade instead. When I do, I won't let WU do it though. I'll get the iso and do it myself.

I'm a confirmed serial upgrader. My System One can trace its OS origins back to an OEM Windows 7 and through Windows 10 (I migrated its OS from the old machine it replaced by restoring a Macrium system image).

Currently I have it dual-booting 23H2 and RP 24H2 as a native boot vhdx. I created a vhdx, restored its own system image to it, set it up to native boot, then manually upgraded that to the Release Preview 24H2. I wanted a heads up on how its main OS install would behave on upgrading. Can't say I've seen any 'weird things', I'll be happy to let Windows Update upgrade it as soon as it offers 24H2.

Unlike some in this thread I can wait for MS to release it in their own good time. After all, it's not as if I haven't already got 24H2 :wink:

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

Possibly, possibly not. Your copy of Skip_TPM_Check_on_Dynamic_Update.cmd is an old one. It says it's v9 from 2022/05/11, mine is v13 and dated 2023/12/07.

But either way, you don't really need all that. I recently clean installed 24H2 on an unsupported device with just a couple of registry edits. After booting from the install usb press Shift+F10 to bring up a command prompt where you make the changes.

but i will use windows update install not boot from usb.

24H2 will never be offered to an unsupported device. You get all the cumulative updates like any supported device would, but Windows Update will never offer a Feature Update. You'll have to download the ISO from Microsoft when it's released and use a workaround to do an in-place upgrade. Watch this forum for posts about which workarounds will work for 24H2, we can't be certain until the official ISO is available.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

Except for supposedly - better sync of Display's Refresh Rate, can't say that i heard anything interesting about this major update (at least not in a good way). Windows Updates are disabled anyway on my rig (Security Updates - can be updated manually) - and i intend to keep it that way for awhile. I'll wait another month or so and see how it goes - all the ups and downs while stripped down by others... 🧐
