Although I have already carried out, over the years (I'm from the time of MS DOS 3.1 era), OS installations, "ab initio", cleans, repairs, IPUs, etc., the link you left me, in your 1st post will be always a reference (just in case I forget any detail!)

Open Regedit and go to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\TargetVersionUpgradeExperienceIndicators Look for the GE24H2 sub-key. The significant values to look at are GatedBlockID/GatedBlockReason which will tell you if there is a Compatibility Hold due to your particular hardware or software. A list of current issues, and which ones have compatibility holds is here: Windows 11, version 24H2 known issues and notifications

The RedReason lists items that do not meet W11 minimum requirements.

If all the above say 'None' then there is nothing stopping you being offered 24H2, it's just a matter of waiting for the rollout to get round to you.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

From the experience I had with "AI assistants" (Copilot, GPT, Gemini (this one I use it in my phone) - I have them (GPT and Copilot) on my desktop as Web Apps, created by EDGE - I have seen that, in general, GPT has very well structured and detailed responses, with superior technical details, both in quantity and quality, when compared to the Copilot's responses.
GPT works in a more "independent" way, processing its own "Database", than Copilot, which works more like an info "searcher"!
It's not uncommon to correct parts of an answer given by Copilot and then it "apologizes" and tells me that "I'm right"!... :)))

Try both, with the same question, and see which one gives you the best info (I bet on the GPT "horse") ;)

... well... or maybe I'll wait a few more weeks, just in case, keeping an eye on the latest developments regarding the resolution of the problems that have been occurring!
... Or, perhaps even, only at the beginning of next year.
I've been reading that MS is going to "pause" or "slow down" the process of "fixing" the bugs in 24H2, during this Christmas period.

And as I have a lot of Excel spreadsheets to design and fill out, until the end of the year, it's better to stay "quiet" with the adventures with the OS (although exciting!)

Reason has to overcome "passion"!

This is also why I'm not touching my wife's genealogy research computer until it is offered through WU. Even with good backups if it starts acting up, and I have to be messing with it for any length of time, I'll be the one getting an update and not in a good way.

You are a pretentious... arrogant... ironic, "24H2" ... "your device is not yet ready for the update"!... Ahahaha... "my device is not ready"!. . NO! "The update is not ready yet"! Oh!?

That most likely means that there is a compatibility hold affecting your machine. Go back to the registry and look to see what the GatedBlockID and GatedBlockReason now say.

that's a Dummer why let you start the update if you're not ready ???? frustrating. Maybe Microsoft warp since of humor?

The RedReason lists items that do not meet W11 minimum requirements.

If all the above say 'None' then there is nothing stopping you being offered 24H2, it's just a matter of waiting for the rollout to get round to you.

In my HP notebook I find the value 54762729 in GatedBlockID.
A curiosity. If I change the value to "None", will Windows Update suggest the 24H2 update or will the value return automatically?

It's almost certain to return next time Windows Update makes its Upgrade Experience checks.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

Problems with registry entries "only" appear in the ``GE24H2Setup`` subkey (as expected!)!
In the ``GE24H2`` subkey, in the same register entries, the values remain as they were (Ok)!

It's the same value as I found in the sub-key ``GE24H2Setup`` (not in ``GE24H2``)!
