So I am having an issue with the newest Windows 11 update and my AMD graphics drivers.

Basically I am running an 9060 XT and a 7 7700x. I recently got a Corsair Xeneon as a companion screen to track temps and stuff so I needed icue. I had issues with icue and AMD adrenaline for a bit, then used DDU to wipe all drivers, fixed some setting, reinstalled then I didn't have a crash.

Then I updated the Windows version last night and even at idle black screen and crashes from AMD adrenaline. Even when icue wasn't running (because I turned off it being started on start up.)

I read that that the newest update has been a bit... weird with graphics drivers, but I wanted to make sure from people more knowledgeable about this topic.

Hello @Sorasueme and welcome to ElevenFiorum. :-)

Microsoft includes drivers in Windows Updates. This causes a lot of problems.
Sometimes these drivers will install over top of a functioning driver and corrupt it, causing other issues.

To make a long story short, just do the below guide step by step, exactly as written.
Don't skip any steps. Just take your time. :-)

 DDU Instructions - AMD

Sometimes the drivers that MS occasionally includes with Windows Updates... can conflict with drivers that are already installed. Which is what the tutorial below is for.

DDU, on the other hand, will remove all the leftovers from MS or AMD graphics drivers, so when you install an AMD graphics driver, it has a clean slate to work with.

1. First, do Option Two, step #3 and onward, here...
2. This will block MS from including drivers in Windows Updates.
3. They'll still be listed in the Optional Updates, if you ever need them.

1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get your vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download ...save this to your desktop.
Unhook the internet completely.
3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
4. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the AMD driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.
Rehook the internet.

After you reinstall the latest official AMD Adrenaline graphics driver, you can block the unwanted Windows Update using Microsoft Windows Update Show/Hide Tool or Windows Automatic Updates Manager (WAU Manager). Both are available from Major Geeks. You run either of them and they search for available updates. They present you a list and all you need it to check the box to hide (block) any unwanted update. This won't appear on Windows Update and of course won't install automatically replacing the perfectly working official AMD driver. I have used the former many times to block unwanted driver updates on old computers. In rare case when the first cannot search for updates, I use WAU Manager instead.

Welcome to the forum.
My suggestion to anyone using discrete graphics...Disable letting windows update handle your drivers. Manage your own drivers, getting them directly from the motherboad or GPU manufacturer.

When you disable this,WU will still scan for driver updates. It just won't install them. WU puts them into your optional updates list, leaving it up to you whether you want to install some/all of them or not.. Windows Updates>advanced options>Optional Updates.

@Sorasueme

Hi, what build-version of Windows 11 are you using? I'm currently using an AMD GPU on my desktop system and in my experience some Windows 11 builds from the Insider Channels are much more likely to offer AMD GPU drivers via Windows Update than the general release builds.

I do what others have mentioned above, I have the Group Policy enabled to stop WU from tampering with all driver updates on my PC.
