Ughh - another annoying installation issue. I decided to clean install W11 in a VM and set it up to use .132 iso,and it decided to automatically update to latest version which took a while to download.

What if I was trying to install a specific version. I think the only way would be to turn off internet on Host so VM does not get updates during installation.

The list of things to do in a clean install is getting linger and longer. I will die of old age before I can answer all the questions. And guess what, to make it worse, all the defaults are the opposite of what I prefer LOL.

Maybe you have fallen foul of the old issue of slow speeds if you have an external HyperV virtul network adaptor set up?

I posted recently how to solve that by disabling packet coalescing and large send offloads

W11 has got rodiculously got rid of so many customisation options , that I hold my head in despair at one they have just introduced.

You can now turn off the ability to go to desktop by clicking on rightmost part of taskbar. This facility has been there since W77 at least.

Why on earth would anybody want to turn this off unless you have a propensity to clicking the far rightmost corner accidentally.

What a useless option!

What use is the new Teams Preview app as you cannot connect to a work or school domain and you have to download a different apps.

MS have no clue do they?!

Until they give us the opportunity to put the taskbar where we want i will not entertain it on my main computer. The whole look and feel of Windows 11 is like we are going back in time, less control now, loads of things we cant do in 11 that we could do in 10 and 7. Fancy looking UI, which is not that fancy at all is not going to make me jump.

Most speed tests i and others have carried out have show negligible speed increase in 11 and indeed sometimes a decrease in speed compared to 10.

Super annoyance: can't hide system tray wi-fi and sound icons. I never need to use them. Also, I'd really like to have the Action Center icon back at far right for quick access to some selected areas, including settings.

Microsoft stated that the first thing for testing is Chat. They will roll out other features at a later date.

Hi,

Unless someone can point out otherwise, its annoying no video preview icons on folders, and as no icons of any type, cannot see empty folders at a glance.

I have a little annoyance with Windows 11. I cannot get File Explorer to open up to a specific folder, ie: C:\ like I could in Windows 10. In Win 10 I was able to make a shortcut to the C:\ drive and place it on the task bar and it would work fine but not with Win 11. Now, if I make the shortcut and place it on the taskbar, it will only open to this PC or Quick Access or Downloads? And I can't seem to find an answer ANYWHERE?
Anyone have an idea?

Right-click on the folder and pin it to Quick Access. If you then right-click on the Explorer icon on the Taskbar you will now see it as a Pinned location which you can select, doing so will open File Explorer at that location.

Autoruns doesn't work properly since it shows many Microsoft options which should be hidden

The only Windows 11 Annoyance I see is Windows 11 itself. The only real reason for upgrading is that Windows 10 will expire despite MS's commitment that 10 will be the last OS.

Didn't MS say 10 was it?

Believe me - i am not complaining. Esp being that I am no fan of 10. But, correct me if I am wrong.... MS stated that 10 would be the last os it would ever release. Any idea what changed?

It was not an official MS statement. Jerry Nixon made an off-the-cuff remark at the Ignite conference in 2015, that's all.

According to the transcript of the session, Nixon’s comment was more of a throwaway line, one that he literally referred to as a segue...

Why is there a Windows 11 if Windows 10 is the last Windows?

If Windows 10 was supposed to be the last version of Windows, why is there a Windows 11? Well, because Windows 10 was never officially the last version of Windows.

The problem lies in so-called Social Media. FB, Twitter, and all these other sites all lumped under the category of SM are mis-categorized. They are not media sites, not even media aggregation sites.

They are sites where anyone can post just about anything and someone somewhere will believe it to be true.

Unfortunately, true media sites bought into the SM scene and started posting their actual media posts directly to these SM sites. And then lots of people learned that, if you have a decent, official looking website, with links that work, you, too, can be a 'media' outlet. And thus was fake news born.

I'll stop there before this ventures into one of the forbidden conversation topics - it's only relevant because too many people actually go to Twitter, FaceBook, Reddit, and other SM sites for their daily dose of news, and get taken in by the fake stuff that is posted right alongside the real stuff. And to make matters worse, all these bloggers and vloggers have to be / would rather be first in making a post / video instead of taking time to actually verify information before posting - IOW, rather than be right.

Real, true information is getting harder and harder to discern from cruft, mis-truths and flat-out lies, these days. People would rather have the information 2 seconds after someone says it, even if it is wrong, than have to wait 5 minutes for verification.
