There's one feature I absolutely positively need returned to Windows 11 or I may ditch this platform and go back to Mac. It's called Drag and Drop to the Taskbar. I use it at least 15 times a day. Without it everything slows way down.

I'm just hearing about this hack --

Before I speak of the app, I want to make a comment about GitHub itself. The great news about GitHub is the little fixes like this. Thanks to GitHub I've had my taskbar apps centered for some years now.

But there's a teeny tiny little WEIRD thing GitHub does that drives you crazy. Where's the Download button? Whenever I'm at GitHub it always takes time to find where you can ACTUALLY download things. And I'm like -- is this on purpose? To prevent novice users from downloading the wrong thing and screaming YOU BRICKED MY PC! I have no clues. It's just so annoying each time it happens.

Anyway, YES, the patch kinda sorta works. It's not as buttery smooth as when Windows did it but it was enough to say, okay, now I can upgrade my main PC to 11. Which is funny -- because literally 5 minutes after this patch proved successful WAS when Windows offered the 11 upgrade to my main PC. Downloading now.

 You read my mind. With GitHub, you never know whether you are downloading an exe or a source file or a readme file. The site is intended for developers, rather than consumers, perhaps.

Umm, GitHub isn't about downloading software. It's about storing and sharing source code for others to build or use in other projects. Git is a Version Control System (VCS) intended to allow developers to keep track of changes (versions) they make to their code. It isn't for distributing programs to end-users. If the software is pre-built for other users it may have a Release section that contains the binaries or installers. But this is not the primary purpose of Git or GitHub.

Many of the publically available programs and projects from GitHub are available through package management programs like winget, chocolatey, apt-get, yum, Mac App Store, or the Windows Store. Those are the proper places to download and install software from. Not GitHub unless the developer has not distributed their software through package managers.

I had never seen that explanation before. It all makes sense now.

Thanks,

Umm... incorrect.

I never said GitHub exists for offering software downloads. I said if a software is publicly available it makes downloading mysterious.

It's like if I said that chain of cinemas hide their bathrooms, and you said, cinemas aren't about restrooms but movies.
