According to this the drivers are supported for Windows 10 and 11, though it has a " * " in it, it means it is a footnote, I cant' seem to find where it is refrenceing to. Since it is in beta, could it be a sign that maybe this i5-7300 can uprgade to 11?

Hi Bunny, thank you first of all of answering all my questions :) I appreciate it, secondly, I do have the TPM 2.0 and secure boot. It's just the processor. Though I wonder if they did test my processor as it is no more in support by Intel. Surface Pro 5 with Windows 10 Pro has the TPM module and all the secure boot stuff :) 1633205405133.png1633205411895.png

My Computer

They are unlikely going to test your processor since it doesn't have the security features required to use 11.

Hello Bunny, I am still confused what are those security features you refer to, I still not sure what they are. Kindly post it in plain English. Merci, - Shawn

Thanks for the link Bunny, I have TPM 2.0 and I have a memory isolation thing. Thanks, I will stick on 10 then :)

Edit: Memory isolation has no issues turning, no incompatible drivers, guess the processor is just too old :(

Your are missing the future support on your processor called

Virtualization-Based Security (VBS)

Windows 11 raises the bar for security by requiring hardware that can accelerate the performance of Virtualization-Based Security (VBS).

Windows 11 enables Hypervisor-Enforced Code Integrity (HVCI) by default. HVCI relies heavily on VBS and protects vital system and operating system resources. In addition, HVCI protects security assets such as authenticated user credentials.

Microsoft has worked together with Intel, AMD and Qualcomm to design this new hardware feature:

  • Intel Mode-based Execute Control for EPT (MBEC)
  • AMD Guest-Mode Execute Trap for NPT (GMET)
  • ARM Translation Table Stage 2 Unprivileged Execute-Never (TTS2UXN)
While Windows 10 already provides HVCI, Windows 11 now requires hardware support to accelerate this. Processors with hardware support provide a 30-40% performance improvements over the software implementation in Windows 10. See this blog article where this is thoroughly tested.

You can check your machine with the attached tool or download it from here Windows 11 Requirements Check Tool

Sir, I am able to turn that on, it says no incompatible problems and I need to restart computer. I think I just have a older version of this VBS. Thanks for the insights. Also I see on bing.com/news that this VBS is causing game issues

My Computer

I have the same with an HP Elite x2 G2 with a I7-7600 processor, but Microsoft have decided that this processor will not be supported without explanation.

So, what about the fact that Microsoft is allowing Windows 11 to be installed fresh on unsupported hardware backing off on some hardware requirements such as allowing TPM 1.2 and older CPUs? My understanding was that, while unsupported, this would be allowed for "enthusiasts" as a fresh install rather than an upgrade.

As of now, I have 11 running on one laptop with a 7th Gen i7 CPU and another that is a <gasp> 3rd Gen i5 (although it does at least have a TPM 2.0 module). Stunningly, Win 11 runs great even on that 3rd gen CPU. I'm on the latest build and so far have seen no threats to kick me off of 11 :) .

So for me it comes down to this:

I clearly understand where Microsoft has drawn the line on what is officially supported because that they have published.

But this extended support that they have announced for "enthusiasts" - where does that line get drawn? How far back can I actually go and run Win 11, although without the official blessing of MS?

Just found about this, I guess Microsoft doesn't want the national department of defence to blame them again about security vulutnribeis

It seems that they just want you to have more security.

Heshestedt,, yes you can install it manually, you won't get updates security from Microsoft and it's voids your warranty

My Computer

So, I'm not buying this whole "you won't get security updates" story in the press. I suspect that is pure BS. How much bad press do you think Microsoft would get if they allowed enthusiasts to run Win 11 on this hardware and turned these machines into infected bots on the internet by not providing security updates? One sniff of that and there would be heck to pay. Besides, I have never heard Microsoft breath a word that they would not provide security updates to such users. It seems to be pure conjecture at this point. Correct me if I am wrong on that, and it may be that I am, but pending some official word, I'm dubious as to that claim.

As for warranty... what warranty????

<Goes out , buys new laptop. within 48 hours have upgraded memory, SSD, and WiFi. Warranty already voided. Concerned? Not even a little bit.>
