Solved Windows 11 Home requires internet during setup

Windows 11 Home requires internet and Microsoft Account during setup according to Microsoft system requirements on Upgrade to the New Windows 11 OS | Microsoft. What happens if I purchase a newer motherboard or network adapter that releases in the future after Windows 11 initial release and it includes a newer network adapter that isn't in the Windows 11 inbox driver database? How can I install the network driver from installation media included with that motherboard or network adapter or downloaded using another PC in order to connect to the internet and complete the setup with Microsoft Account?

Hello. Does anyone know if the leaked version will get updates from microsoft? We will have to do another clean install after microsoft releases it officially?

Hi! You could use _B_rink's workaround. (extra characters added to avoid tagging unnecessarily)

I also wanted to point out that the scenerio you are describing is pretty common. There sure will be a way to continue set up without a connection, just maybe it will be more, hidden. For instance that button would only appear IF there was no network adapter detected.

You could always enter audit mode by the shortcut, install network drivers, then reboot into oobe mode (that's the initial setup wizard) and continue from there.

Or if you know what PC you-re installing at, then you could also add the driver to your windows installer. A tool like NTLite would help you with this, or you can also do it manually with DISM.

Hi. I don't know the answer for this but I recommend that you do a clean install at this point. Using a leaked internal version that has who knows how many horrible hacks and unfinished code pieces that could possibly corrupt your files, is a bad idea in general. Staying on that version, regardless of upgrades, is an even worse idea.
I recommend to do an immediate clean install. You do not need to format your partition, it should still be safe, even in this case, for you to just boot from the installer, select the already existing windows drive and hit install, thereby letting the installer move everything into windows.old folder and you manually restoring your user data from there.

Well yes, you're right, they do - but even then... they are not testing their upgrade path from this build... they internally do upgrade for sure but they might use custom patches which you don't have or know about.. so anyways, bad idea to upgrade from leaked version

They do stranger stuff though> making TPM, especially 2.0 at that a requirement, something which most of today's desktop PC's don't have at all and many notebooks have older versions of it... well...
this was too crazy in my opinion to believe, even for them.

But at this point, I'm really curious why. like, what is it needed for?

Increased security. and it's not like they've ended support for Windows 10 already - plenty of time for people to get newer hardware that supports the new OS.

But what does it exactly increase? TPM itself does not secure anything. It could be used to store encryption keys... IF encryption is used at all, which is still not a requirement... perhaps password hashes?

As soon as Microsoft let's us know, you'll know.

We don't have an official release yet, and they are rapidly updating documentation for Windows 11. We know what everyone (except the Microsoft devs) know. So asking right now is not really going to get any answers until they come from Microsoft first.

I am not sure if this applies to the Home version, but if you have no internet connection during setup you can proceed without some features. At this point you are allowed to create a local account since you cannot login to your Microsoft account. In fact we use this workaround (disable WiFi) in order to create a local account instead of a Microsoft account on clean Windows 10 installations.

Reply ok , also see NT lite which allows preinstalled drivers on customised USB or DVD , Windows 10 /11 boot discs.
Very good no 1 product for such matters ,up to date with all current versions.
An adapted ISO can be thus be saved from Windows installation files and made to boot via "Rufus" boot program for example.

It is still possible to set up Win11 Home with just a local account.

If installing a Windows 11 Home edition and you currently do not have an Internet connection available, you can press the Alt + F4 keys to bypass not be able to continue Windows Setup without an Internet connection, and go to step 21D to set up a local account.

As we don't have the official ISO yet there's no way to tell, but it seems unlikely that the installer will be significantly rewritten for the RTM version.

There should be a way to bypass internet connection requirement. What if we completely disable WiFi so no network is available to connect? I guess in that case Windows 11 would let you proceed with a local account. It remains to be seen.
Probably we have to click on having trouble to connect and let the troubleshooter fail 2-3 times before it decides to give up and offer to proceed with a local account.
