Windows 11: How to change folder icons in the "All apps" list in Start Menu?

Hi everyone!

In the Windows 11 Start Menu, under the "All apps" section, folders created by installed programs are displayed. I want to replace their standard yellow icon with my own .ico file.
I have completely replaced the icon resources in the system file imageres.dll.mun. The new icons applied successfully everywhere across the system and in File Explorer, but in the Start Menu, program folders still continue to show up with the default yellow icons. Apparently, the Start Menu pulls folder images from a separate internal cache or system package.

Does anyone know a working method, registry tweak, or script to force the Windows 11 Start Menu to pull the new icons for folders?

If I'm not mistaken, the resource resides in an Assets folder somewhere, with a manifest pointing to the resource.
I tried to change it awhile back but was unsuccessful.

I don't think you can even using a 3rd party app. It's in one of those tightly locked down MS places. I believe you can change the icon of the apps in that folder though.
I changed my system folder color from manila yellow to blue successfully but it did not change the color of folders in the start menu, only in file explorer and regedit which is what I wanted, I very rarely use the all apps list in start menu so could care less what color icons look like there.

Most likely These icons come from shell32.dll or shell32.dll.mun which CANNOT be modified or you break the signatures and Windows won't load! I have tried and had to restore the original unmodified file to make Windows work again. If this is the case there is nothing you can do. If it is some other file that can be modified, I would like to know about it, please share.

You could do as I did, extract the program shortcuts to the root folder and mark the actual folders as Hidden, for a clean list:

If you use Open Shell or other tool to replace the default Windows 11 start menu with an older version such as Windows 10 or 7, you can then customise all the shortcuts to your liking. I use Open Shell to get the Windows 7 start button and start menu.
