Insider Windows 11 Insider Beta Build 22621.1 (ni_release) Version 22H2 - May 11

  • Staff
UPDATE 6/9:

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621 to the Beta Channel.

TL;DR

  • We are releasing ISOs for this build – they can be downloaded here.
  • This build includes a small set of fixes that will improve the overall experience for Windows Insiders on their devices.

Changes and Improvements

[General]
  • [REMINDER] The build watermark at the lower right-hand corner of the desktop is no longer present in this build. This doesn’t mean we’re done, and the watermark will return to Insiders in a future build.

Fixes

[General]

  • Updated the underlying speech platform to improve voice activity detection for voice access, live captions, and voice typing, as well as address some issues with how punctuation is recognized.

[File Explorer]

  • Fixed an issue leading to Insiders seeing error 0x800703E6 when copying files from Google Drive.
  • Fixed an issue where if you had ever opened the context menu, doing CTRL + ALT + DEL and cancelling would lead to explorer.exe crashing.

[Taskbar]

  • Fixed an issue related to loading the system tray icons in Settings > Personalization > Taskbar which could cause Settings to crash when opening that page recently. This issue may have also led to some explorer.exe crashes for impacted Insiders.

[Windows Security]

  • Fixed an issue which could result in Smart App Control unexpectedly blocking correctly signed applications.

Known issues

[Live captions]

  • Certain apps in full screen (e.g., video players) prevent live captions from being visible.
  • Certain apps positioned near the top of the screen and closed before live captions is run will re-launch behind the live captions window positioned at top. Use the system menu (ALT + Spacebar) while the app has focus to move the app’s window further down.

For developers

You can download the latest Windows Insider SDK at aka.ms/windowsinsidersdk.

SDK NuGet packages are now also flighting at NuGet Gallery | WindowsSDK which include:
These NuGet packages provide more granular access to the SDK and better integrate in CI/CD pipelines.

About the Beta Channel

The Beta Channel will be the place we preview experiences that are closer to what we will ship to our general customers. However, this does not mean every feature we try out in the Beta Channel will ship. We encourage Insiders to read this blog post from last month that outlines the ways we’ll try things out with Insiders in both the Dev and Beta Channels.

The desktop watermark you see at the lower right corner of your desktop is normal for these pre-release builds.

Amanda & Brandon

Hi folks

@TairikuOkami

Who's got 23H2 yet in any build version. !!!

Cheers
jimbo
Usual pattern is Dev version will still be labelled 22H2 for a while, and eventually labelled 23H2 but no obvious pattern as to when. I doubt it will be before 22H2 is formally released.

You cannot remove it. The Group policy only applies to Education if I remember rightly.

Okay, but did MSFT ever mention that this feature is exclusive for that edition of W11 only?

This is the gpedit screen. I have no bloody idea why students are allowed to removed it but nobody else!

Having an odd issue with this build, no language packs will install via Settings. Is there a way to manually download the language files?
Could be because your store app is broken. Just try and see if you can view more themes from the store or open the security dashboard without "You need an app or link" type of message popping up.

On the 226xxx build all working, on 25xxx build - Fail on my machine.

Cheers
jimbo

This is really fecking annoying! There's a mouse hover tip when a mouse hover tip is not necessary! It prevents you from clicking on the item!
Goodness sakes, the text is not truncated so why the mouse hover tip!?!?!? 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️

Another odd thing with the new Task Manger is the different font used on the services page compared to the rest of the App. There really seems to be no internal checking or even any real idea of app design

I think the tooltips should only work when you minimise this menu, but this is Microsoft

It specifically states that it in the Group Policy Editor, in the notes for that policy. "Requirements: Window 11 SE".

As @RFS indicated, it doesn't prevent you from clicking on the item. Just move your mouse to the right of left of it once it's up and click. That's how it works for me, at least.

I don't seem to have any problem either. Maybe your video card is "Too Good" or mouse settings incorrect.

creating a Pro Edu version from UUPD would do the trick or only the Edu version is required for this to remove the recommendation?

Also, Is there any bypassed trick available to avoid such edition specific requirements in GPO?

Windows 11 SE is not just an 'education' edition, it's also an S Mode edition - do you really only want to run Store apps?

Which Windows is right for your school?

Learn the differences between Windows 11 SE for education and Windows 11, to find the best learning environment for your students. Windows 11 SE has the benefits of a cloud operating system with the same power and reliability of Windows 11.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

This Beta build and the last 1 or 2 haven't played nice with the NVIDIA DCH driver. The taskbar has turned opaque black. It reverts to the normal translucent green when the driver is removed in process of clean installing an updated driver, but it's right back to black as soon as installation of the new driver is complete. The current NVIDIA driver is 512.77 and the GPU is GTX 750 Ti.
