Hi All,

I ran the compatibility check for Windows 11 and I'm missing TPM 2.0. Newly built computer with the following motherboard. See detailed specs.

There are a couple of ways of activating the TPM 2.0 feature on a modern computer. One is to have a TPM 2.0 module attached to a TPM header on the motherboard. And the other is to enable fTPM on the AMD processor.

Your computer build does not appear to support TPM 2.0 on the motherboard. However the Ryzen 5 3600 processor feature set does support fTPM. In which case you would need to enable fTPM in the BIOS to activate.

And that is one reason why there is so much confusion about the onboard TMP (PTT on Intel and fTMP on AMD), no one seems able to read specifications or instructions. Sorry to say iko22 if you had actually read the specs for MissSherlock you would have seen that that motherboard does in fact have a TPM header on it,

Sorry but there are just too many people here and just about any forum you can visit putting out misleading or out right wrong information, when the correct information is easily available. And every time someone starts saying anything about the TPM header on a motherboard that has it already built in (CPU/chipset/etc) the scalpers on ebay start salivating.

The second part about it supporting FTPM is accurate though. Instructions on how to enable it on Asus motherboards can be found here,

It makes more sense to just turn the TPM2 on via the BIOS than buying a chip.

Maybe I'm wrong to assume that most people would be happy with a firmware TPM, rather than having to locate and buy a compatible hardware module. (There is no industry standard for TPM modules.) Is it easy to buy a TPM module at the moment without paying scalper's prices?

Yes, agree that firmware TPM is trending more popular with users. Perhaps it is perceived as less hassle - so, you are not "wrong" at all :). However I did not want to overlook that discrete TPM has been tested in real computers for longer and some users think that that option is more secure, for example:

The firmware TPM have been around for 6 years at least. The differences between the discrete and the firmware versions, even in the area of isolation, are insignificant from what I have read of the technical details in what is publicly .

I think at this point, in particular, the OP, are just looking for a way to legitimately upgrade to Windows 11.

I don't know about that update, but some of the ones I've seen just change the defaults so that they match the Windows 11 requirements. That's good, but the same settings are available with older BIOSes.

For an AMD motherboard, fTPM and Secure Boot need to be enabled (which may want a UEFI Boot choice). Also, enable SVM (Virtualization) and IOMMU (input/output memory management unit). That will give you Enhanced device security.

Thanks to good advise on this forum, I stopped vainly searching for a TPM module and enabled the firmware TPM 2.0 built in to the motherboard. Of course a plug in module would have better security, but unless you are a buisiness user with a lot at stake it is unnecessary for home use, after all, we all paid very little or no attention to TPM before W11 came on the horizon. Microsoft are quite happy for us to have firmware TPM enabled to qualify for W11.
