I don’t know about anyone else, but I still don’t know what you’ve changed. I was a psychic once, but alas, no more.
In the image below that you posted (see how I have embeded it into this post?) on the top two files, there is no icon for the file .jpg. Possibly a related issue?
Also in the image, as already mentioned, the file actually sellected is a shortcut, you wont see that in the preview pane.
As you haven’t really told us anything, I am assuming you “may” have made changes to something that affected .jpg files.
What happens if you “open” one of the top two .jpg files, what do they open in?

I would start by resetting the associations for .jpg files.
Go to this tutorial
Scroll down to .jpg
Click and download the reg file
Run the reg file
