Windows 11 23H2 OS Build 22631.5840.
I have Windows 11 21H2 OS Build 22000.856 installed and have experienced Windows Explorer crashing multiple times after right-clicking on files and opening files.

Has anyone else experienced Windows Explorer crashing?

Thank you for your response. I have experienced other anomalies only to find after hours of investigating that other applications are causing the issues I experience. I am a retired software engineer and I am more than frustrated by these software companies putting beta-level software in the public arena as fully functional applications. But what can one do but take it all with a grain of salt and endless amounts of patience and tolerance? :)

Edit: I forgot to mention I am using Windows 11 Home, so that is probably the issue. Thank you.

Posts 1 and 2, here...

Most of us on here, use backup software, religiously.
Especially on Windows 11, which is.... still being created, so to speak.

Personally, I make a fresh backup before I do anything. (new software, Windows update, new driver, etc).

Notes:

Try to keep the total data on the Windows drive to a minimum.
That way... backups and restores are fast.
Install big things like games, on a storage drive, rather than on the Windows drive.
Most people on here use Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper, both have free versions.

Starting around Windows 8, Microsoft decided to make us the guinea pigs, the testers.
So, we need to be aware of that and take steps to protect our Windows installs.

Lastly, even Microsoft recommends using 3rd party backup software, rather than the built in Windows backup software.
The built in backup software is being deprecated... aka... phased out.

If even backup software can't solve your problems... then there's the In-Place upgrade (repair install).
In short, an In-Place upgrade will fix all Windows issues, and leave your files and programs untouched...

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Windows 11 ISO (use the 3rd option), and save the ISO to your desktop.
Download Windows 11
The ISO must be downloaded in the same language as you are using in Windows, to be able to keep your Programs and Files.

000000 Win 11 ISO.png

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.
