I see no reason to archive the photo or document if the only purpose is verifying you're adult. Archiving millions of documents/photos is costly in 1st place lol. I'm not even sure if the verification is run in the server or in the client, the latter wouldn't even require transmitting the document. The process checks the requisite and discards the source data. Mechanically, maybe it has never been recorded in a remote disk, it's only needed in RAM for the program's execution. Even if it's recorded in a disk for implementing a queue or a more resistant interaction, it's a temporary file, not a permanent database.

What will be interesting with Windows age thing is if they will push it globally so it effect even us that dont have age verification laws... or if they will in the installer when choosing location they will ask or not ask.

The problem i see isn't that California, Australia have laws... the problem i see is when they implement it globally..
and i think windows might push it globally as they get more user-data that way

Yep, not giving MS nor Google anything more. The moment Windows implements such stuff, I dump it and same goes for Android and switch to a Linux based mobile OS, which will give me more power on the device anyways...

...maybe I'll do the transition soon, so I don't get caught with my pants down. :wink:

I installed LineageOS on my Sony Xperia 5 V2 when i was forced to use a smartphone for 2½ months while waiting for my new dumbphone when they shut down 2G/3G phone network over here.
There is more degoogled OS's out there, but this one seems to have a lot more supported phone models for install.. as i didn't want to buy a Google phone (pixel) to install Graphene OS... i refuse to sponsor Google with money. *LOL*

They could create user statistics about which age groups are interested in specific products or websites and sell these data to big companies. Not anyone's specific date of birth. Besides why hide it? Unless you are a woman of course.

I often do this to my servers.. i set up the OS in a VM and then when its good to go and I'm happy with the setup i clone the VM disk to a physical disk and put it in the server and boots it up.
Then i only have to make sure after the switch is my ZFS-pools is correct in fstab before i just let it run, as those pools i cant mount in the VM.

But except from that non-normal thingi that normal user never run into... All drivers is in the kernel, so to 99% you never have to install any drivers afterwords. The exception is often named Nvidia if you want the Nvidia driver over the Nvidia kernel version. but to 99% it just works when moving a VM to a disk and then run it even on other hardware then the computer you used for the VM.

I like its user interface. Its ability to install pretty much everything I need. Its small foot print. I was working with Mint till I ran across Zorin. I still have Mint in my VM but Zorin captured my attention.

Okay

As i haven't had the time to look myself, I'm kind of curious to hear about others opinions as i have started to recommend Zorin over Mint to new Linux users that never had any Linux experience before.
So as more i hear about others experiences and opinions on Zorin, as more i know about it.

From what I read on their website you can make the interface to look exactly like Windows or Mac OS so it is familiar enough for non advanced users. It also installs a Windows compatibility framework to let you install some Windows apps on Zorin. Sounds too good, but as with all Linux distributions the problems start once you want to do something that needs to type commands in the Terminal. Hopefully these cases are much fewer than in Ubuntu, but never forget, no matter how similar it looks like, Linux is not Windows. I strongly recommend to try it first before adopting. Especially if you have some specific devices and apps you want to use. I would first test my printer and all my peripherals and internal devices and all my favorite apps. I know they are alternatives, but what if I want to use the original apps? There are not alternatives for everything or do not have the same functionality as the original.

Thank You for your advice. I am testing it in a VM for incompatibilities. If all works out I'll continue to use it in the VM until I am comfortable with the OS.

right action from MS should be as other reacted on law demands... "If they try to force us, we leave that market" so MS can say they wont offer windows to California.
There is no law that saying Microsoft is forced to sell their products to them.
Signal said this to EU when they asked Signal to build a backdoor in their software for law enforcements to use.. Apple said something similar to UK when UK wanted backdoor access to iCloud.
So MS has the power.. if they want... but MS also see this as more user-data.. its money.

I think the world have gone crazy..
Why should we adults suffer to protect others kids.. isn't it the parents job to make sure their kids dont do some things online..
Almost all OS's have built in parents-control... learn the stupid parents that is to lazy to take parental responsibility how to use the features and not expect the rest of the world and governments to raise their own children.
And if they ain't tech-savvy enough to enable parents-control or have someone to ask how....... perhaps they shouldn't give their kids under 13 smartphones

When my son was a teenager I once looked at his (desktop) PC and a friend's laptop. Full of viruses, porn sites, etc. Unless you have very powerful parental controls installed on a system you simply can't control everything they do. And smart kids will figure out a way to bypass those controls.
