Windows blocking HTTP sites

That is what I was expected - there is a setting somewhere within Windows that has changed and it is affecting all browsers - I need to find out what that setting is to restore the services.

There are reports of this on the web, but no definitive resolution with people fixing it by randomly trying different things.

Actually, no. It's the machines that are letting http sites load automatically without a prompt to the user that are incorrect. Default for all modern browsers is to prompt the user before loading an http site.

I'll go out on a limb here and make a wild guess. Maybe it could be that way due to one old computer that was upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 and IE settings were imported into another browser. Who knows how it happened. I just know each modern browser has a setting to control it.

Browser syncing also comes into play with its settings. Do all your browser's sync on all computers?

I think that you are missing something extremely important.

There are multiple browsers being used, Edge, Edge Beta, Chrome, Safari, and Brave which I tried for 5 mins as a test. Whilst between Edge on one machine and another there is syncing of passwords and accounts and extensions they don’t sync settings and if that was the case why would the setting work on one PC and not the other?

Why is it that ALL browsers on one machine are affected yet on the other machine (on the same network using the same DHCP) there are absolutely no issues?

The only thing that is common to all browsers on the faulty PC is the OS and network, but as the network works perfectly for another machine, and phone and tablet it isn’t the network, ergo it can only be an OS setting, and not a browser setting.

I'm out in my shed using my mini pc and Edge Canary. The links opened without any warnings. It must be because I'm using Edge Canary. My mini pc is running Windows Defender and my Desktop is using Eset Internet Security.

They are not opening. The OP dosen't even get the option to continue or cancle. I'm the one who posted that the web pages are opening. I tried with two different compters. On my desktop eventhough it's possible I made a setting change, I doubt it. On my mini pc I just recently set it up and I know I didn't change any settings. My desktop is running Eset Internet Security and the mini pc is running Windows Defender. The only thing they have in common is that I tried when I was using the Canary build of Edge.

I just installed Firefox on my mini pc. I get the same results with Edge, Edge Canary and Firefox. My desktop is running the Canary builds and my mini pc is running 22H2 build 22621.1702.

I have an update. I'm back in the house and using my desktop. When I click on the link in Edge Canary the page loads and when I checked Edge has turned on extra security. I tried the link in Firefox and I get the warning and have to click continue. This is a pic of the Firefox warning on my desktop. I wonder why setting the option in Edge to disabled doesn't work.

I have decided to stop using any version of Edge and go back to Firefox until I find out why HTTP sites are being loaded without any warning.

Using this poster's lnks to test with , I can ascertain that even though Edge detects it as an unsecure site, it opens without prompt in both Edge and Edge Canary, but FF blocks it giving me the option to accept the risk. Something has definitely happened in Edge.

It must be an OS setting somewhere as both Edge and Firefox (both on default security settings) opens the site immediately for me.

Don't know if it's been suggested before but might be worth running the Network and Internet troubleshooter.

At least I now know that I'm not the only one this is happening too. I was surprised to find that the option to block HTTP sites from loading wasn't set as default when I installed Firefox on my new mini pc.

1. what is the answer to ping + a full address of the problematic sites in command prompt?
2. have you already checked Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Choose defaults by file type ?
