Can I make Windows Explorer always (default) show details view (not details pain) in all the folders and not have to reset the view every time I go into a new foulder

    The only thing it lack is USB-3.2 on the front face but it has 3.0 on the back
File Explorer, set View as Details first, click the 3 horizontal dots, go to Options then its View tab, two choices at the top.

Thanks, I don't know why I had trouble with this. Everything was set the way I want it but maybe just clicking the Apply to Folders again will fix it until an update breaks it again.

The "Apply to Folders" procedure will not catch everything. For example, it will not update existing file open/save dialog views. And sometimes Windows update will revert certain views to Windows defaults.

If you set the defaults via the FolderTypes key, you can catch everything and it will stick, but doing that by hand is way too much trouble.

Fortunately, there's a tool for that. It's called WinSetView. It will let you set the same view globally or let you get as granular as you like. You can even set a different default view for file open/save dialogs.
