Windows Media Player does not open the .jpg-extension files , only audio and video works in WMP .
In Win10 , I could open .jpg also . When trying to open a jpf-file , I get a warning ; program closes with error.
After looking in the eventlogs I found ; error id=1000 , path to combase.dll ( system32)........
Tried several options ; sfc /scannow , removing WMP and , after reboot , installed again , etc.........
Still no luck , wonder if this is a standard behaviour of WMP in Win11 .
Appreciate some help , coz dont want to remove the WMP from my system , yet !error WMP opening jpg.png

I thought WMP is use for audio and video formats, i don't even get open option for picture files.

I have no problem opening .jpg although they open in a player. I am running the same version of Windows 11. Your issue might be a NET Framework issue.

It does work but you have to drill down the options list and choose it. I can get it to work on 11 but I can't recreate the error to help

Cant you rightclick on"open with" ( on a picture-file ) and choose for the WMP ?
I can , it gives me the error ( see my attached file) ..............in Win10 the picture-file is opened by WMP in a second !

I can use the Photo-app , MPClassic , PowerDVD and the photo-vieuwer , but NOT the WMP !

Okay open Library and click Pictures and there you can click a image you want to open but it will be displays it as slide show.

I didn't go into settings I just did this, I chose it as an option to view the image,. It opens it like a video and after a few seconds it closes it.. it's like a way to view multiple images in a slide show
format.

Since it works on mine I can't recreate the error.

Yup.. this was kind of new to me.. it's cool but what's the bug?? 🤷‍♂️

" I don't have WMP context menu option for images. "............I dont have it also , but you can search on and choose for "other apps" , just scroll down untill you find the WMP .

Open Settings --> Apps --> Installed apps and from Media Player --> Advanced options you can repair or reset WMP.

"Can you open video or audio files?"............yes, I can .........its only the pictures ( jpg,img,etc.)
Strange, some of the pictures will open by WMP , but only for one or two seconds !!

" Possibly you are confusing WMP with Windows Photo Viewer, which has similar look. It can be re-enabled in Windows 11. "...........no , have a good look in the previous posts , this session is for WMP .

I really do not understand why one would need to open it in WMP. Here is a photo opened in WMP:

And here is a photo opened in Windows photo viewer, which also is shipped with Windows 11:

As you can see, the interface is similar.
