I have several games installed on D: partition of my 2TB SSD. The other day I noticed that several games wouldn't load (Forza 3, 4, Motorsport 7, Ori were just a few). I was getting an error that the trial version had expired or another error. Looking at Settings/Apps the option to Move the games to another drive was greyed out. So I Uninstalled them all and re-installed, which took hours as the Forza games are huge. Ran the games, re-synced cloud saves - all good...

Until today, when the same happened again. I've lost access to all the games for a second time. Forza 5 still works, the only one that does. The option to move this one is greyed out also.

Short of a complete reinstall of Windows, what are my options?

@BrianInEngland

You'll probably just have to move UP to a more manly driving game. :D

manly...Come on i thought i was clicking on to see some fanatec sim racing setup with a sim game D: . Anything other than real sim driving games aren't real driving games, That isn't to say they aren't good or fun though. I've been playing f1 2021 and its simcade, But fun none the less.

The games I play are irrelevant, now if you have a useful suggestion
I'd use the xbox app and try from there, Windows store hasn't ever been great for games, And yes its the xbox app for windows( Inteded to be used for gaming on windows i guess). If it still doesnt work, Right click the game in xbox app and go to manage, then repair files. Also make sure anything xbox related etc is updated through store. I've not had any issues to date on the xbox app but have previously with windows store.

In the past month or so, I've gone through all the "modern' driving games, sim and arcade...
none are as good as the old 4x4 Evolution.

Works with game controller or joystick, can use automatic or manual transmission.
You can race against the clock or the computer, and they're even bringing back the multiplayer.

You may "think" you're an awesome driver... but until you beat my hotlaps (included), pfft. :D

This game is from the days when ships were wood and men were iron. :-)

The three little dots, Try that then manage, Should be in there, If theres any issues it should give you the option.
Any updates for anything through the store that could be related? They do licensing updates etc from time to time also.
Maybe could be worth a clean install of the xbox app itself( If you had it prior to my suggestion earlier).

Nope, these are the options under the three dots, even on games that DO work. Show available add-ons only shows for games with DLC, no options for Manage or repair

This is an old school game. You know, like when they made GOOD games. ^^
It does anything you want...

Image1.png

Image1.png

It even has force feedback if you want. :)

I posted everything I can think of... starting here...

Personally, I drive in Auto. The great part about this game is NOT the sim side of it (which exists and is good), but the tracks, the building of the vehicles, and the hotlaps.
You drive one of these tracks about 100 times, and you notice things... like just a touch of brake, right here... makes or breaks the whole run. Or this shortcut over there, takes 10 seconds off your best time.
There is NO limits to anything in this game.

You can drive ANYwhere, you just have to go through the checkpoints in order, to finish the race.

Building the vehicles isn't like today's race games... there's 100's of parts.
Every part has a description and explanation of the changes it will make to your vehicle.

This is the metal.ini file. These are the parts I own for my career race truck (the one in the pic above)...

These are the settings you can change before each and every race, if desired...

Seriously... they don't make games like this anymore.
The various types of track or areas, have their own frictional coefficient.
They even have studded tires for the snow tracks. :D

The whole game folder with all the extra tracks is 550MB.

Up until 2016 there was a site (vales.com) that had everything to do with this game.
1000's of custom vehicles, and over 6000 custom tracks. Plus all the editors, mods, etc.
In 2015... KC the guy who ran the site got a terminal illness. The site closed in 2016.
Can you imagine what this game must be like to have that kind of following.

This game came out in 2000 or 2001.

This is an old school game. You know, like when they made GOOD games. ^^
It does anything you want...

Might have been a great game then and still today if it holds a special place in you're heart like everyone has I guess but compared to modern sim racers with a wheel setup etc. It isn't even the same thing

This game works with a wheel, has force feedback. There's two websites starting up, again... to support this game.

The ONLY thing modern racing games have over this game is better graphics. That's it.
In all other areas, they are subpar.

Anyway, you don't have to take my word for it. The game is public domain, and I packaged everything you need plus complete instructions for installing. It's FREE, try it out... then we'll talk. :-)

How did you find games like assetto corsa/Assetto corsa competitzione, Iracing, Automobilista 2, Maybe even Rfactor? Those are the only real sim games out there at the moment worth bothering about, I doubt it has FFB etc to the level of new games, A wheel and a FFB doesnt fix a bad handling model, 900 rotation support is needed at min as well as well as everything inbetween. Not to mention it looks like 1995 and well call it only graphics but theyve came a long way in terms of realism etc.
Good to see a community around an older game none the less and im sure its great for people, Just isn't in the same bracket for me
