Windows Update MiniTool thinks a reboot is needed when it's not

I'm running the latest version of wumt on a Windows 11 Home laptop. It was working fine but then ran into a problem. When I open wumt that little pop-up appears telling me "reboot or cancel." But there's no Windows update actually waiting for a reboot. I went into the "regular" Windows Update settings screen and checked over there ... and there's nothing pending a reboot. I rebooted anyway (more than once), yet the problem remains.

I scanned for updates and found a pair of Intel updates that I want to download and install. But wumt won't let me do that until this matter is resolved ... the "reboot or cancel" pop-up appears when I click the button to download & install.

I don't see a way out of this. Windows Update isn't waiting for a reboot, and I don't see any updates sitting out there in wumt that could be waiting to reboot ... but wumt thinks there is, so I'm stuck!

Does anyone know what wumt is looking at to give it this false impression that a reboot is needed?

This is the only thread I have open on this "phantom" reboot issue. My prior thread was about this same laptop, but it was a different problem which was resolved (per my post in that thread).

After the various changes that were made (and described here) the problem persisted. So I left it alone for a couple of days. When I tried it again this morning ... IT WORKED!

I'm also having this issue, stuck like this since I installed that persistent Microsoft Health Tools (KB4023057) update.
WUMT always get's stuck at the latest Defender definition update:
Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Version 1.401.602.0) - Current Channel (Broad)

I've tried using regular Windows Update and it's also stuck, as it keeps installing exactly the same two files, both show as 'completed', yet never asks for a reboot.
When I reboot (multiple times now) it will continue to install (and show as 'completed') these same two files.
I ran the troubleshooter and it shows the following, which at this stage after 2 days of the same thing is not the solution:

Should I go through steps to stop/restart the windows update service?

Your situation is somewhat different that what I ran into. But I've since moved away from wumt to a different solution called Windows Update Manager (GitHub - DavidXanatos/wumgr: Windows update managemetn tool for windows 10). This software looks and works very much like wumt. But when it encounters the need for a reboot it offers a message on the screen before closing and doesn't force the issue on you. It's also quite a bit smaller than wumt. So far it's worked well for me ... you might want to give it a try ... it downloads from www.majorgeeks.com. bob

@bobhoward - thanks for your reply.
I don't like using Win 11's built in update tool as it quite often installs what it likes regardless of Group Policy configurations on drivers etc.
Most of the time it will be fine, but history shows that sometimes updates break things.
I use Macrium, but I really shouldn't have to go through the process of creating entire C drive backups on the off chance the update is problematic, especially when some updates cannot be uninstalled after the fact.
3rd party tools like WUMT have allowed me time to see if there are issues popping up for too many others and avoid these updates, which is easier especially when I prefer to wait a few days to see if there are problems.
I will give this other tool a try, but probably not download from MajorGeeks as I don't particularly trust that site.

With this new tool do you happen to know whether I should check "Register Microsoft Update" - it installed unchecked but not sure if I should check it?
I checked 'manual' Download/Install

I use Microsoft update so I would get updates for Office, etc. --- otherwise it would just be Windows updates.
