windows update- remove old pending updates from list?

I disabled automatic downloads of updates through group policy
and right now there are several old items in the list which are older than the versions currently installed, like security intelligence and display driver.

if i allow download, will Windows skip these old versions?

is there a way to delete this list and force windows update to start fresh?

Yeah - remove group policy and let windows updatw naturally. Feature updates are optional now, so disabling updates is pointless.

Just let windows do the updates and it will decide which it needs to install.

I always let Windows update of its own accord, then later remove all the surplace and installation files from drive C using the good old disk cleanup that has been part of Windows for generations.

Why disable updates? unless you have a problem. is this what you want to do

I advise you not to disable Windows updates because Patches and Security updates are routinely released through Windows Update. Microsoft releases updates to address multiple vulnerabilities in Microsoft software. A remote attacker could exploit some of these vulnerabilities to take control of an affected system.

Yes there is a way to completely reset windows update. I am attaching a script file. Unzip it. Right click on ResetWUEng.cmd and run as administrator to reset windows update. Restart computer.

If you don't want to run the script file you can run the commands yourself as follows:
a) In search box type cmd- select Command Prompt run as administrator

b) In the open Command Prompt window copy and paste these commands one at a time

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

c) Wait for the process to complete.

d) type exit to close the Command Prompt.
Restart computer.
