When that error comes up it means that winget is falling over when trying to grab the source:winget database. When this happens, it may be helpful to reset that source winget source reset or perhaps winget source reset --force should tell you quickly if the problem is on your PC or in the cloud. If it's on your PC one or the other of those commands will work; if in the the cloud, they won't.

I use UniGetUI utility which shows all the updates in a window and let me choose which ones to update. For updates I want to manually update or never update I just put them in the ignore list. However, out of curiosity I run the command in a PowerShell as Administrator and now it seems to work OK.

I like UniGetUI, too. But I also do things manually with winget just to keep up with the update pulse, if you know what I mean. Life is ever so much easier since these tools have come along, though.

Well it was a 500-level HTTP error, so…
Access denied, if I remember correctly, which means there was some issue with the server blocking access to everyone but Admins.

Well...it WAS working. And now after today's upgrade, it is not.
I just finsihed a Win11 Pro install on a PC and ran Winget with no issues

winget update displays all applications with available updates. If it returns nothing, then all applications are updated. If it returns an error, please post a screenshot to diagnose and help you.

PS: Make sure you run it in a PowerShell as Administrator. It won't work in Command Prompt or without Administrator access rights.

PS: Make sure you run it in a PowerShell as Administrator. It won't work in Command Prompt or without Administrator access rights.
That's not always true. Some apps are designed to be installed on a per-user instance, and as long as they don't need Admin rights to install, winget will run. If the installer calls for admin rights, then you will get an UAC prompt to finish the install.

Yes. But you made a comment which isn't always correct.

There are legitimate cases where someone might install a per-user app. Like some browsers will install themselves for one user, and not for all users on the system.

Just in case WinGet is missing or malfunctioning, you can either click on "Repair WinGet" in UniGetUI or run this in Powershell as Administrator:

Add-AppxPackage -RegisterByFamilyName -MainPackage Microsoft.DesktopAppInstaller_8wekyb3d8bbwe

PS: I just saw you already tried to repair WinGet. Try the command in PowerShell instead and post a screenshot if you see any errors.

PS2: The error in PowerShell says it could not open URL (access Microsoft Server or the online file). Probably some rule in your Firewall. If using a third-party firewall, add an exception to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\winget.exe (where username is your own user folder) and C:\Program Files\UniGetUI\UniGetUI.exe To verify that Firewall is the culprit, disable the firewall temporarily and run WinGet again. If it works, then some rule is blocking WinGet, add an exception or remove the offending rule.

Just in case WinGet is missing or malfunctioning, you can either click on "Repair WinGet" in UniGetUI or run this in Powershell as Administrator:

Add-AppxPackage -RegisterByFamilyName -MainPackage Microsoft.DesktopAppInstaller_8wekyb3d8bbwe

PS: I just saw you already tried to repair WinGet. Try the command in PowerShell instead and post a screenshot if you see any errors.

PS2: The error in PowerShell says it could not open URL (access Microsoft Server or the online file). Probably some rule in your Firewall. If using a third-party firewall, add an exception to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\winget.exe (where username is your own user folder) and C:\Program Files\UniGetUI\UniGetUI.exe To verify that Firewall is the culprit, disable the firewall temporarily and run WinGet again. If it works, then some rule is blocking WinGet, add an exception or remove the offending rule.
I found the solutions, it was the app Tinywall that I have installed on my computer, I needed to set it "autolearn", now everthings is working again :-)
