Word Corruption

When looking at the versions of Office suites keep in mind the version of the apps in it will be different from Version 2013 and earlier. Office 2013 has apps of version 15. To get the actual version of the app look in About or Account. Office 2016 was the first to have app versions of 16, haven't worked with later ones yet.

Thanks to you all for responding and sorry I have not been as clear as I should because I dont know the answers to the simple requests.

GLASSKUTER ................. your last reply was the easiest for me to understand and probably the best way to go.

I am still running the windows 7 PC and have the original discs, but rather that try and add any old stuff to this new laptop, it's probably best to use the original documents (quite a lot) and store them on a seperate hard drive or stick to pull up when needed and just delete the documents with the brown box, which may have been added by dropbox when transferring.

I can manage to stumble along fairly well, but when problems crop up, thats when I try a friendly forum like this one.

When I do make a final decision, I will post it, just in case something else pops up.

It's such a pity that Microsoft did not take into account these transfer of files and documanes when producing a new system, as there will be many people wanting to transfer their information.

So, if I understand correctly, any document or file transfer from windows 7 direct to windows 11 is possibly going to be a miss-match. Best to keep it separate, or I could look up the documents on Dropbox, which I suppose is like a sepearte hard drive.

I do appreciate members who have tried to help.

No, it's normally expected to be perfect.
I have Word & Excel files that have been transferred from WinXP through Windows 7 & Windows 10 to Windows 11 without any problems at all.

All the best,
Denis

Same as @Try3. Generally even the programs that get upgraded can still read the old files but the only one I have worked with that did change formatting was with Office 2007, even the old Lotus WordPro could work with files created in the even older AmiPro it replaced.
