Solved Zip files crashes Windows Explorer

What version of the app where you on? I'm on 6.4.0 (build 8)

Reinstalled Carbonite using the older version placed in my account (6.3.6) by tech support. Program currently doing a backup, which it was doing when I discovered the issue. All seems to be good at the moment, so... (y)

Just had email from Carbonite

"Our Engineering team has identified a conflict with our software and explorer in Windows 11. This conflict will be corrected in a future release of Carbonite software. Currently Explorer doesn't crash when using Carbonite version 6.3.6. For now, I have downgraded your version of Carbonite to prevent Explorer crashing when interacting with .zip files. Please uninstall and reinstall Carbonite.

When the update is released, you will be prompted to update."

So same solution as you mentioned above which I am now doing

Yeah, I just emailed them the 6.3.6 file works. Carbonite downgrading us says they're the issue, but I also wonder if the issue wasn't exacerbated by a Microsoft update as well, seeing we both "discovered" the issue after some Microsoft update(s).

Anyway, all good. And thanks for chiming in and helping out (y)

Is there a link for the Carbonite downgrade? I have the same issue - File Explorer crashes even if it simply displays a .zip file in a folder's contents (don't have to click on it - it just needs to be visible in the File Explorer window). I can't seem to find a repository of their down-rev'd software.

No sweat. I ended up trying the app Files as a work around or staying away from zip files till it got resolved. Trying to remember that this is new and there are bugs. Can't give up Carbonite though as its paid for another 18 months and is part of my 3+2+1 setup.

As one who downloads files all the time, having explorer crash every time I looked at a zip file was something I couldn't "work around". Luckily Carbonite provided a fix, or they would have been gone

I have the same issue when trying to unzip a folder. I have also had the files just crash when looking at a file that's on an external hard drive. That folder crashes and anything I have open that's installed or a file on my computer will crash at the same time. This is a new computer only 2 weeks old and everything I have on it was on the old one that had windows 10. Had no issues with that one. I've tried some of the things mentioned on here still happens. No errors show up when I check for that. Any help would be appreciated. I'm ready to go back to windows 10.
