I keep forgetting several people aren't using the new start menu yet. I've been using it since it first appeared with bugs so it's old news to me now.

yeah and its (i'll say 99.5%) the cause of this. i'm sifting through all vive IDs now. that feature has to be tied to one (has to may be strong, but i'd say very likely is)

This is an astute observation.

I actually can't tell if I have the new start menu or not. I would have thought it would be included with the 25H2 update. My start menu hasn't changed at all (apart from this horseshit we're discussing) so I guess it hasn't been enabled.

I had actually assumed the reason it hadn't changed was because I had configured/changed my start menu so much (disabling certain tiles, etc etc etc). But I guess not

i did however figure out that you dont have to fully uninstall the store to disable those results. i blocked WinStore.App.dll specifically and they are gone... but now store doesnt launch. i'll keep digging.

Awesome work.

It kind of sounds like it's related to the 'new' start menu based on the past few comments here. I didn't realize, but that is rolling out separately to 25H2 itself, is that right? If so, that's a clue.

as i've stated multiple times, yes. BUT not 100% positive. i have also, as stated, been able to disable it via disabling the winstore.app.dll. i actually made a .ps1 to disable that and made another .ps1 that will temporarily enable it, launch the store, monitor the store and when closed will disable that dll again. thus creating a workaround without uninstalling the store.

attached are both for whomever wants them in the interim. both are self elevated, so you can just right-click run with powershell or call them from a non-adm powershell. either way, doesnt matter. maybe @garlin or @pseymour have a better solution... i'm no powershell guru

This reminds me of a former co-worker, who was up for trying anything, but the senior team members would ask him "is this a good idea?" His response was always "But it works, right??"

My suspicion is it's probably tied thru Client.CBS through a search handler. By breaking the search handler association, no Store results get delivered. There's likely an undiscovered ViveTool id for this. Remember some features are not explicitly enabled or disabled, they can be shipped as enabled by default.

None whatsoever. Below is the new Start menu, and, typing in the Search box at the top gives exactly the same as before. I am on 25H2 build build 26200.6899. I have disabled the Start menu tweaks in ExplorerPatcher. None of the mods I have in Windhawk are related to the Start menu in any way.

I'm in US, Nevada and had all kinds of ads and web content until I did the reg tweak I posted. Now the Start Menu search screen stays clean just showing recent apps.
